It makes me upset when I'm at a restaurant and I see not only are all the children at the table on their phones, but the adults are as well. There was a time not too long ago where I was the youngest person at the table of about 12 people and I was just looking around at every single person at the table silently scrolling on their phones. I felt like I was an old grandpa about to blow his top at all the grandkids. Everyone in the world seems to be addicted to those little screens. There are many great things about social media: keeping up with friends and family, the inspiration to try that Pinterest recipe, even following what's happening in the news. But it's important to remember to put the phones away sometimes--even if you're by yourself a phone break is necessary. Here are a few things you can do instead of refreshing all feeds, timelines, and boards for the millionth time that day.
1. Go Outside
It's summer. Go for a walk. Go to a pool. Eat breakfast on the porch. Just enjoy the sunshine and remember that sunscreen!
2. Bake/Cook
One of my personal favorite "no phone needed" activities. Plus, you get something delicious to eat. Whether you share it or save it all for yourself is up to you.
3. Organize Your Clothes
Or just do laundry in general. We're all too familiar with that huge pile of dirty clothes that usually find their home to be a miscellaneous chair or corner.
4. Pamper Yourself
Some ideas; deep conditioning hair treatments, face masks, give yourself a mani/pedi, take a power nap.
5. Do That Thing You've Been Putting Off For Months
Whether it be something fun and relaxing like painting, knitting, or drawing that you just haven't done cause you were too busy on the phone... or one of those things you've been dreading for months like making that doctors appointment or seeing just how overdue that overdue bill is.
6. Netflix and Chill(ed out exercising)
This is my new favorite thing. If you're an avid Netflix watcher I strongly suggest you try this. While watching Netflix, just do a couple pushups every couple minutes, some toe touches, a 10-second plank. It adds up. My personal favorite thing to (re)watch is any of the DC comic shows; Supergirl, The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow. All the episodes have some sort of bad ass fight scene that makes you wish that if you were ever being attacked by some League of Assassins members, a speedster, or an alien you'd be prepared to just roundhouse kick someone and it all be over.
