From one college girl to another, it can be hard. You feel lost surrounded by all these people, you may know some from childhood or you may be brand new to the area. No matter, it can be difficult trying to figure out what kind of woman you want to be.

When life gets confusing and hectic, I think of these things and life doesn't seem so bad.

1. You're not alone.

This is probably one of the most important ideas to remember. You do have friends and people who care about you, it's not you against the world. If you feel like you never hang out with people, get up and go to lunch or out dancing with friends. Make an effort to live it up. There are so many girls like you thinking the same thing. So go make a girl group with them, you all already have something in common.

2. Own your body.

No matter what size you are, strut across campus like it's your runway. Some girls gain weight, some girls lose weight, and some are just stuck at whatever weight they are. It doesn't matter, love yourself the way you want to be loved. Respect it the way you feel it should be respected. Everyone is always wishing they could change something about themselves, be the person that encourages them that they're beautiful, just like you.

3. You're not valued by a relationship status.

Going off the loving yourself idea, your relationship status doesn't determine how successful you'll be. A boyfriend/girlfriend shouldn't hold you back or make you feel complete. You'll never share true love until you love yourself. So if you have a significant other, great! Make sure they treat you well. If you don't have one, great! Don't focus on searching for one. You're here for a degree, not a ring.

4. Be thankful.

You're in college getting an education, most of the world's population doesn't get to do that, especially women. Just focus on what you do have rather than what you don't. Don't complain about how you're busier than everyone else, there are people with less free time than you. There are people with a lot less than you. Help them by doing everything you can to succeed and prove you can make difference.

5. It's OK to make mistakes.

This is coming from someone whose friends call every month to see what huge mistake she's made, it's okay. There's another word for mistakes, lessons. Some of us learn more lessons than others, but we all still learn them. They can be easy lessons sometimes and other times you don't want to learn them, but fate has a different idea. You'll get through it and become a more well-rounded person because of it.

6. Someone's looking out for you.

Whether it be your sorority sisters, friends or God, there's someone who will always have your back no matter what. No matter how many times you mess up, they'll be there to help clean up the mess. When you wipe out, they'll pick you up. They want to see you succeed just as much as you do. Have faith in them.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
