Finding the perfect Halloween costume is more complicated than it looks. Especially when you want something original, quick, cheap, and easy to put together in a stitch. All of this can become even more complicated if you want to have couple-oriented costumes with your partner, and especially more so when you are in a same-sex relationship because there aren't many readily available ideas out there, and it may take some imagination to pull something together. So to make it easier, I have compiled a list of 6 costumes that can be gender-fluid or same-sex specific to help out my LGBTQ babes this Halloween! These costumes offer a lot of options and creative freedom depending on your own preferences, whether you wish to be gender-fluid, love to wear makeup, prefer simplicity, or just want to gender bend a costume to fit your couple look. Let me know what you and your partner went as this Halloween, and have a happy and safe Halloween night!
1.) Danny & Kenicke/The Pink Ladies
These will be great choices if you are a movie buff and love the classic musical Grease. I've seen many different interpretations including one where Danny and Kenicke were gender bent. However you and your partner want to play out these options, all you will need is a white shirt, a leather jacket, some dark pants, and a lot of hair gel for the boys, or a pink jacket, sunglasses, and a whole lot of sass for the ladies.
2.) Peter Pan & Tinkerbell/Wendy/The Lost Boys/The Mermaids
These costume ideas are great for the children at heart and are also easily done for any gender or couple. The lost boys can be gender bent easily since they only require an animal costume, and I've seen super cute Peter Pan and Tink costumes for my lady couples. These costumes can also be super quick (The Lost Boys especially), but if you want to put in a bit more effort into your costume, the Peter Pan & Tinkerbell/Wendy or any other mix of the characters could turn out super cute as well. I've also seen some amazing male mermaids, so don't be afraid to step outside the box and get creative here!
3.) Disney Princes/Disney Princesses
We have all seen the super adorable reimaginations of Disney princes finding their prince, and similarly with our princesses. So bring those to life this Halloween, and go with your gal or guy as a super cute royal couple! The ladies will just need a colored dress to correspond to their princess, but the costume can be easily dressed up with makeup and accessories you probably already have in your closet. For our princes, put together simple pieces like blue jeans, a red scarf, and a white button down for Prince Eric, or check out your local Halloween store for Prince costumes that will work out great for both you and your partner!
4.) Skeletons/Zombies
I had to throw in some scary options for my lovers of gore and the macabre, so if you want a simple costume that will rely mostly on some minor makeup skills, you and your partner can go as skeletons or zombie versions of yourselves! I've also seen super classy and simple skeleton costumes (Like Tyga and Kylie Jenner's matching all-black skeleton ensembles from last year, or a suit and tie get up with spooky skeleton facial makeup) that really pack a punch, but are still quick to put together. Since Walking Dead just came back this past week, you can gain inspiration from those gory/gross creations with a couple of props and decide which you and your partner want to try out!
5.) Super Sweet Candy Boxes
Want something quirky, whimsical, and really sweet? Go as matching ends to candy boxes and foods! This can be done with Nerds boxes, M&Ms, and other food duos, like PB&J. This might take a bit more time to put together, but it's a great costume if you want to be "stuck" to your partner all night long and need a good excuse.
6.) Angels/Demons
Is one of you a bit more angelic or naughtier than the other? Then go as an angel and a demon! These are also simple but cute costumes and can be done with things you have at home (white shirt/dress, red shirt/dress, makeup for details, and angel wings and horns), or with easy to get pre-made costumes if you don't mind spending the money. They also aren't gender specific, so they can fit any duo with ease.
And there you have it! Any of these costumes can also be used with other popular characters, but I hope I was able to spark your creativity so you and your partner can have an easier time dressing up this Halloween. Don't be afraid to step outside the box and wear something you normally wouldn't - Halloween is the best time to get imaginative, after all. I hope these help you!
