6 Fall Trends: For Women

With the fall season officially in full swing, it can be tough to pull together a seasonally appropriate outfit while balancing classes, extracurriculars, Greek Life, and nights out. If you've been looking for a few easy (and comfortable) ways to amp up your wardrobe with the coming season, look no further. Here are some of our favorite front runners of fall 2014’s biggest trends both on and off campus:

1. The cute sneaker. Sneaker? Cute? Can those two words even be used in the same sentence? While many certainly aren't a stranger to the coveted white Converse infatuation that’s been circulating campus for the last year or so, the concept of the fashion-forward sneaker continues to evolve. A traditional white sneaker can easily be amped up with bold colors and prints, and the juxtaposition of a traditionally more athletic shoe paired with a stylized ensemble makes for an edgy look with a classic “back to school” feel.

2.  The leather jacket. Truth be told, it’s pretty possible that the leather jacket will never go out of style. This piece is constantly being reinvented and is easily incorporated into many different looks because of its extreme versatility. If you feel like your outfit needs a little more edge, don’t be afraid to add some leather. Jackets in black, cobalt, and various shades of grey are popular tones this season.

3.  Oversized sweaters. The moment you've secretly all been waiting for: Yes, it’s totally acceptable for you to wear that gigantic grandpa sweater you've been hiding in your closet. The oversized chunky fall sweater is definitely a major fall staple—they’re cozy, comfortable, and will definitely keep you warm on chilly fall mornings on your way to class. Often paired with super skinny jeans or leggings, an oversized sweater will definitely be a major statement piece for casual dressing.

4.  The plaid flannel. This trend is self-explanatory. Who doesn't love a soft and comfortable flannel? Flannels in rich tones such as warm reds, deep blues, and forest greens are commonly spotted and are always easy to find in stores. Plaid has had a major presence on the runway during Fashion Month and we’re sure it’s here to stay!

5.  Utilitarian layers. While the cold weather hasn't hit quite yet, structured jackets have also been making a loud appearance both on the street and runway. Utilitarian parkas, trenches, and jackets are great layer pieces that will help keep you warm and elevate your feel good look more than your North Face ever could (not that we don’t love those too, amirite?).

6.  Ankle boots. Boots are an essential fall fashion piece and have been for decades. While the riding and combat boot have had some major time in the spotlight the past few seasons, it seems as though a new contender has begun to steal the show: Ankle boots. Ankle boots can be paired with almost any outfit (dress, skirt, skinny jeans, you name it) and come in almost any variation your heart can possibly desire. This variation on the boot trend can be dressed up or down with ease and is an absolute necessity for fall.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
