Since adolescence, I have loved words. Words have been my safe haven, when everything around me seemed like a war zone. I've grown up truly adoring the power of words. They've personally affected my life and inspired me in ways that art or music never could. Words have given me unparalleled joy -- so much so that I have desired to thrust the same happiness. Thus, I've chosen to pursue an English degree.
English has always been a passion of mine, whether I was reading the words of Jane Austen, fawning over the poetry of Dylan Thomas, or studying a play of Shakespeare's. Books and words have been a huge part of my life; I can't remember a time that I haven't been able to read. I've spent hours on end sitting in various uncomfortable positions reading books that have let me travel to different dimensions. It has been books that has made me feel, in the darkest of times, that somewhere out there, there is light.

We all have our passions -- music, art, sports, words. I grew up always reading. I can't remember not being able to read. Books have made me laugh until I cry tears of joy and cry ugly, heartbroken sobs. Even when words push me to tears, it is in the most wonderful way. As long as I am surrounded by meaningful words in my daily life, I could never not be happy.
Language is beautiful when written or used with careful thought. I love language more than I can express in words -- ironic, is it not?

Personally, words have saved my life. When I have felt most alone, words were my best friends -- giving me comfort when I'm anything but, supporting me when I may need it; they're my greatest motivators.
My favorite place to be is between the pages of a book, sitting uncomfortably, flipping through pages, and smelling that great book scent.
