We all know that feeling. That feeling of anticipation as that thing you have been waiting for comes closer and closer. That new video game, the next book in your favorite series, the best new teen romance movie. The anticipation starts as soon as you know it’s coming, and it only continues to build as it approaches. The last few days before you can finally see it, touch it, hold it in yours hands, are the worst. It’s so close, and you just want it now, but you can’t. Not yet.
Release day can be chaotic, depending on the item being released. The midnight showings of popular movies have people waiting outside the theater for hours. Come rain or shine, people will wait in any conditions just so they can see what they have been waiting for as soon as possible. Some people may wonder why. Why something is worth waiting outside in the rain, or even the snow, when waiting a day would be easier. When waiting a few months would be a lot cheaper. But the people who are waiting, those who have been waiting for that movie for a lot longer than they have been standing outside that theater, those people know. They know that they would give anything to see that movie the second it is released. They know that the wait is agony.
Movies and books, especially those that are part of a series, can be the hardest to wait for. Those people have been waiting since the second they finished watching the previous movie, or reading the previous book. They want to know, need to know, what happens next. But they have to wait, sometimes a year or more, for the next book to be released until they can know what happens next. Know what happens to their beloved characters. That wait is agony.
Some people, myself included, prefer Netflix to actual television. They prefer to simply be able to click "next episode" to find out everything they want to know about what happens to their characters. They are relieved after a particularly heart-wrenching cliffhanger that they do not have to wait an entire week to find out if someone lives or dies. Does she say I love you or not? They definitely do not want to wait months, or even years, between seasons. Waiting is not something people like, and that is what makes release day so exciting.
You know what it’s like; of course you do. No matter what you were waiting for, a book, a movie, or even your food at a restaurant, everybody has felt that satisfaction when the wait is over. There is nothing quite like the feeling of finally having what you had been waiting for, dreaming about, for days or weeks or even years. That feeling, that rush of excitement, is something everybody feels on release day. The wait is over. Finally, it’s here.
