College can be some of the best four years of your life. Yes- you're going to make mistakes, but what really matters is that you learn a little something along the ride.

So, without further ado, here's a list of 50 random things I've learned throughout my college experience.

1. Make the most of your four years because time flies.

2. Twenty-four hour days are not enough time to get everything done.

3. Nap when you can.

4. Textbook companies are a racket.

5. Embrace awkward moments.

6. College tuition is an investment.

7. There’s no place like home.

8. Dining hall meals get old really fast.

9. Learn how to take good notes.

10. It’s actually important to study.

16. You have to put yourself out there to make friends.

17. Sometimes you have to say no to the fun stuff in order to get the important stuff done.

18. Don’t get caught up in one test score.

19. Talk to your professors.

20. Take risks, but don’t be stupid.

21. Writing papers at 2 am is rarely successful.

22. Learn how to introduce yourself.

23. Step out of your comfort zone.

24. Always go for the free food.

27. College isn’t just about finding someone to date.

28. Sometimes you have to ask for help.

29. Learn how to advocate for yourself.

30. Get your general education courses out of the way as an underclassman.

31. Moodle sucks.

32. Become friends with upperclassmen.

33. Group projects are the bane of all existence.

34. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices for other people.

35. Establish routines, but don’t forget about spontaneity.

36. Stay in touch with friends at home.

37. Surround yourself with people who make you a better person.

38. Avoid drama at all costs.

39. Don’t overcommit yourself.

40. Learn how to love people who are different than you.

41. Sleep is really important.

42. Roommates become your best friends.

43. Say thank you to people.

44. Everything in this life is temporary.

45. Be flexible - plans change and people are busy.

46. There is an art to watching Netflix while simultaneously doing homework.

47. Bad days are only temporary.

48. Every college has its’ strengths and weaknesses.

49. Make time for yourself.

50. Education is a privilege.

College comes and goes faster than you think. You can only be a college student once in your life, so make the most of the experience and learn what you can.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
