Excited to break out your cozy flannel shirts for fall? Um, same! My favorite flannels are oversized and super soft (you know, like the ones you stole from your boyfriend… or your dad). However, there is a fine line between comfy fall fashion, and looking like you just rolled out of bed. Here are 5 ways to style your favorite big flannel without looking homeless:

1. Wear it as a dress

…as long as it covers the unmentionables! Pair it with knee-high boots for more coverage. If you don’t like the way the fabric hangs around your torso, try securing a thin belt around your midsection. This look can be dressed up or down based on the boots and accessories you choose.

2. Tie it around your waist

This is perfect for adding a pop of color to your usual “jeans and a t-shirt” outfit, especially for class or running errands around town. The best part about this look is if you get cold, simply untie the flannel and use it as a light jacket. Perfect day-to-night transition!

3. Tuck it into jeans

Pairing your flannel with your favorite pair of jeans is a classic, comfortable look, but tucking it in makes you look more polished and ready to conquer the day.

4. Pair it with shorts and tights

We all love those surprise 75 degree fall days, but they are super hard to dress for! Solve that problem with black or denim shorts over tights, with a flannel half tucked in.

5. Layer it under denim

Some fall days feel as cold as the middle of winter. Love the look of a denim jacket, but not how rough it feels against your skin? Wearing a flannel under a denim jacket puts the comfort factor back into your outfit, and completely changes the style. It adds a pop of color to the look, and makes it easier to pull off denim on denim, without the whole “Canadian tuxedo” stigma.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
