5 Ways to Keep Up Your Protein Intake If You're a Vegetarian

We have it tougher than most.

Let me start by saying, I'm not a vegetarian by choice. My parents are thought and only cook vegetarian meals at home, but when I go to restaurants, I'm free to eat all the chicken I like. Unfortunately, COVID-19 has made that impossible, and I'm craving protein, as many of you all must be as well. And it's important to keep that up. Through the past 6 months, I've come up with 5 sources that I thought I should share:

Protein shakes/protein powder

We usually see these in those heavy lifting gym Instagrams, with the caption: "Fueling up for my workout". Well, news flash: no matter if you workout or not you need protein. I drink Orgain, which has lower amounts of sugar, but if you prefer taste over nutrition (which is completely understandable) I'd recommend Core Power, which comes in many different flavors. My friend also recommended having a protein shake with coffee, to mask that lovely protein powder flavor.

Nuts

I have to admit, I've become nuts about nuts. Everything but cashews, I'd say, is a delicious snack or part of a meal. And they're definitely a good source of protein. A couple of trail mixes a day, and you should be on your way!

Milk and Dairy

You'd be surprised, milk actually has a LOT of protein. I believe one glass has about 11 grams of protein. And if you're a yogurt or cheese fan, just make sure you're including lots of dairy in your meals!

Eggs

I've found that while one egg by itself doesn't contain the most protein, eggs can be very versatile. For example, you could have two eggs for breakfast in any shape or form, an egg salad or egg sandwich, and there are loads of pasta and foreign dishes that incorporate eggs, not to mention cake:)

Hummus

Saved the best for last.. pita chips and hummus are the BEST snack, prove me wrong. And it's so high in protein. I'd also recommend those naans you get from Costco. But yes, hummus is a great source of protein, and is once again very versatile.

Side note: Meditteranean food

who doesn't love a good falafel?

I hope this helped! Remember that just because you're a vegetarian, does not make you any worse off in terms of calories, nutrition, or health! You've just got to choose the right foods:)

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
