5 ways to get away from party creeps

Ladies, we've all been there

5 ways to get away from party creeps

Not that I think we should have to lie to keep ourselves safe when we go out, but since this is the reality we're faced with, here are some creative ways to go about it:

1. The Buddy System

I've never personally met anyone who's gone out alone. So if you find yourself in an uncomfortable situation, grab the girls you came with. There's rarely anything that can't be solved through a trip to the "bathroom". This gets you out of the situation and in a private place with your gals to be able to assess the issue and devise a plan to leave if necessary.

2. "Sorry I'm taken."

This is another very common response to a person who is making you way too uncomfortable. Sadly, even if you say this to someone, more times than not they will answer with some gross response about how "well they're not here right now" etc. The best way to solve this is to grab the closest friend that you have, girl or guy, and hug them. "Sorry, I'm out with my boyfriend/girlfriend" *point to person you're hugging*. I can't tell you how many times this has saved my butt in a bar.

3. The Random Girl

Girls are very likely to help out another girl in an uncomfortable situation. If you wander off by yourself, whether you were going to the bathroom, getting a straw, etc., and someone comes up to you and won't leave you alone, this method works well. Find the closest group of girls and hug one. "Oh my gosh I haven't seen you in forever!" While hugging them, briefly explain the situation and they'll be more than happy to help! Wouldn't you?

4. One Liners

"I'm actually waiting for my dad to come pick me up, I still live at home and my parents are super strict." "Wow you know what, you remind me a lot of my dad!" "My brother is a narc, he's here somewhere." Literally any strange lie about yourself that will make this guy rethink everything he walked up to you thinking. While he's processing this information, make a getaway and find your friends.

5. The Angel Shot

This is a relatively new concept that a lot of bars and clubs are taking part in. If you're in a tight spot, whether you're out with a guy who isn't treating you right, or you met someone out for a date and he isn't who he said he is, this is an amazing way to get you the help that you need. It basically goes like this: you go to the bar and order an angel shot. Depending on the way that you order it (with lime, etc.) the bartender will get you the help that you need, whether it be getting you an Uber, walking you to your car, etc. Every place that takes part in this does it a little differently, so be sure to research before relying fully on this strategy.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
