The summer after you graduate from high school is a weird one: you've just finished one huge part of your life and are about to embark on another one, you have minimal time left with your friends from home until you have to say goodbye for a few months, and you are overwhelmed with stress on what to pack and what living in a dorm is going to be like.
While these feelings are new and definitely weird, there are plenty of ways to push them aside and not let them stop you from having one final amazing summer before you are an official college student.
Here are a few tips I would suggest on how to make the most out of these next 3 months before move-in day sneaks up behind you:
1. Get a job
I know this might sound boring to some since the last thing you want to do after having graduated from high school and officially being done with homework is sitting at a desk filing papers or busting a few tables.
But believe me, the money you'll earn from a summer job will save you once you get to college and want to dine out at restaurants or get a late night snack with friends almost every night of the week instead of sticking with the dining hall.
2. Go to a concert or music festival
Summer is definitely the BEST time to go to a concert or festival because the weather is nice, you can dress up in cute clothes, it's the perfect opportunity to get some cute pictures to flaunt on Instagram, and you don't have to worry about getting home late since you don't have class the next day.
Plus, these events are where some of the best memories are made and would make great stories to tell your new college friends.
3. Take a vacation
Whether it's to the beach or to another country, summer can mean relaxation or
4. Sign up for a gym membership or class
Want to be prepared for facing the freshman 15? Find a local gym and learn more about what membership deals or classes they offer, and utilize them by trying to stay fit this summer! Working out is a great stress reliever and can give you something to do if you're bored at home and trying to find ways to keep yourself entertained.
If you don't want to deal with the gym and machines, try running or going for a walk outside around your neighborhood, since the weather will be perfect.
5. Spend as much time with your friends as you can
Even if you won't be that far apart when you all go to college, make sure to use the summer as a way to be with them pretty much 24/7, because after you move in, your time with your friends is going to be limited.
There's no doubt you will all stay in touch once you get to college, but it won't be the same as it was before since everyone will have different schedules and times that you're busy with classes or other commitments. Plus, the gaps between holiday breaks are very long, and you'll find yourself wishing you could've had more time in the summer to spend with them to make the most of it.
Have a happy and fun summer!
