5 Underrated R&B Artists That Everyone Should Listen To

Something that is very popular in our generation and what most teenagers cannot live without is the beautiful thing called music. Throughout each decade there have been artists that have captured our hearts (and ears) the most, such as The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, the queen Beyonce, Carrie Underwood, Kanye West and many others. But while these artists were and have been selling out arenas worldwide, there are many excellent new and upcoming artists that do not get as much notoriety. Here is a list of 5 underrated people that everyone should listen to at least once.

1. Sabrina Claudio

To all of you "SoundCloud rappers" out there, this artist is an example to not give up! If you are into slow, sensual music, she is definitely the one to listen to. Sabrina Claudio got her start on SoundCloud in 2016 where she started to get a lot of recognition which then lead to her releasing her EP Confidently Lost which is possibly one of the most beautiful things that I have ever listened to. (Can you tell that she's my favorite?) She has also released quite a few singles and a mixtape, About Time, which of course did not disappoint. Sabrina just released two singles Don't Let Me Down ft. Khalid and All to You that have both been on repeat in my playlist.

2. Daniel Caesar

Daniel Caesar, real name Ashton Simmons, is another one of my favorites and is actually an up and coming artist. In my opinion, he could be considered the male version of Sabrina Claudio (which may be the reason that I adore him so much). Caesar first released his EP in 2014 titled Praise Break followed by another EP in 2015 titled Pilgrim's Paradise. He has also released many singles that have gained him a lot of recognition such as Get You ft. Kali Uchis, We Found Love, and Japanese Denim. In late 2017, he released his debut album Freudian which I think is very worthy of listening to.

3. H.E.R

H.E.R., also known as Gabi Wilson, is a new artist that I am just starting to listen to but am quickly falling in love with. The name H.E.R. has been revealed as an acronym for "Having Everything Revealed" which her identity was just recently revealed after being mysterious, hiding what she looks like. She has been featured on a song with Daniel Caesar, Best Part, which is even more of a reason to listen to her. But this R&B queen has singles of her own along with two EPs H.E.R. Volume 1 and Volume 2, and an album titled H.E.R. She is definitely an artist to keep an eye on because she is making her rise to fame.

4. Jessie Reyez

This beauty has released songs that are super relatable and have had me singing as I'm ripping up some pictures after a breakup (who hasn't been there before?). Jessie Reyez is starting her growth as an artist with an EP Kiddo, and her singles Figures (the song I was referencing above), Cotton Candy, and Phone Calls. She has also been featured on other artists' songs such as Hard to Love by Calvin Harris and has even been nominated for some awards for iHeartRadio.

5. SiR

And last but certainly not least, SiR is another R&B artist that is starting to gain some fame. He released two mixtapes Wooden Voodoo and Long Live Dilla back in 2012 and 2014, but really gained attention when he released his album Seven Sundays in 2015 and an EP HER in 2016 followed by HER TOO in 2017. He continued to spark my interest this year with his mesmerizing album November that I have not stopped listening to.

I always think it is important to support any artist for putting their work out for the world to judge, but these were a couple of my personal favorites that I hope you take the time to listen to.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
