We officially welcomed spring last week, which means (hopefully) warmer weather and the ability to wear something other than dark layers. Spring is the time when people show off their true fashion instincts and have the opportunity to try new trends. This ability, however, often leads to some less than stellar choices in clothing. I do not consider myself Anna Wintour, but there are some fashion trends that have recently been gaining steam that would give Miranda Priestly a heart attack.
1. Birkenstock-style shoes.
I don't think high fashion when I see these. I think 60-year-old vacation dad or Jesus traveling around Galilee. I understand they are comfortable, but fashion is supposed to express the kind of person you are. What do these say? That you don't like real shoes? The only time these are acceptable to wear is if you are in Florida with your grandchildren or wandering the desert for 40 years with Moses.
2. These shoes.
Speaking of shoes. I don't know what these are, but I want them to go away. I have yet to see one person pull them off, famous or otherwise. And please, for the love of God, don't wear these with socks.
3. Chokers.
Unlike the ones mentioned above, this particular fashion statement can be pulled off, if used correctly. However, used correctly means that you can either be at a '90s themed mixer or a Jenner. Why do you want to feel like something is squeezing your throat all day. anyway?
4. Big eyebrows.
Ever since Cara Delevigne came on the scene a few years ago, natural eyebrows became the thing to have. Recently, though, people have been confusing natural with big. To quote one Internet user (in response to the above picture), your eyebrows should not "look like two subtraction signs." If you have naturally big eyebrows, go for it. If not, don't try this at home.
5. Over-the-top Coachella fashion.
Music festival fashion is fun and always exciting, but if you are dressing like Vanessa Hudgens at Coachella on the regular then you need to take a step back. This type of fashion is very hit-or-miss (don't even get me started on flower crowns) and a little goes a longer way. Besides, if Stacy London says this fashion trend has to go, that's the end of that.
