5 Tips to Help you Survive Until Winter Break

You're almost there!

1. Stay Motivated!

You made it to Thanksgiving Break, now its just a few more weeks until you will once again be able to sleep in and eat food that isn't from a dining hall or previously frozen in the back of your freezer. Finals are going to happen whether you want them to or not, only you can decide how well you do. If you do well now and get your grades up, finals will be significantly less scary.

2. Sleep AND study!

I know studying is important, but studies (done by people who have been successful because they have gotten sleep) have shown that if you let yourself sleep for 8 hours (and make it into REM sleep) after studying you will retain the information much better and you'll have to spend even less time reviewing before the test.

3. Move around!

Whether this means changing up where you study or going to the gym for an hour, sometimes getting a change of scenery can be refreshing. I also like to avoid high stress places like the library right before finals/break. The stress felt by everyone else around you makes studying more difficult, go find somewhere more relaxing and quiet elsewhere on campus.

4. Don't get sick!

Drink lots of Vitamin C, stay away from the guy behind you in your Civics class that can't stop coughing, and power through! Also, if you feel yourself getting sick go to the doctor as soon as possible so that you can get better faster so it doesn't mess with your school work. Sleep helps with this too by the way.

5. Let it go.

No, not the Frozen song. Realize that if you do everything to the best of your abilities, it is officially out of your hands. Cut yourself some slack and save your stress for something bigger because this one paper/test/whatever is not the be all end all of your world. College is about learning, if we were all perfect none of us would be be here purposely going into debt, so relax.

You can do it! Worst case, fake it 'till you make it and may the odds be ever in your favor!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
