College is a rollercoaster and it has many ups, downs, twists and turns. So before you go on this crazy ride I have a couple tips to hopefully help you survive.

1. Be yourself

As generic as it sounds it is the best saying to live by. In college everyone is trying to find themselves and find a supportive friend group. Trying to be someone else will get you stuck with a group of people you most likely don't want to be around in situations you don't want to be in. Friendships are usually a lot stronger when people are genuine and show their true selves from the very start.

2. Try new things

Don't be afraid to try new things and join clubs that sound like they would be fun. Get involved even if you are shy clubs and being around new people will break your shy tendency and make you more social and personable. Trying new things is never a bad thing, you find out what you do and don't like as well as what you are and are not comfortable with.

3. Make New Friends

Making new friends is essential to the college experience and can help you maintain a healthy social life as well as helping you in school. Study groups and friends with similar classes can benefit you greatly when you need a hand with homework or a little more explanation. Teachers usually use a lot of huge words and terms that no one understands unless they are a teacher.

4. Explore

Exploring your campus or around your school can benefit you a lot because you get to know where things are and where you can find people. Exploring will give you an advantage as a college freshman, you never know who you might run into life is mysterious like that. Some of my closest friends I have randomly met just walking around campus or being at the right place at the right time. College campuses are like a new world but on a smaller scale and there are so many people to meet and talk to and new experiences to make.

5. Don't Forget To Relax

Relaxation is a huge part of recovering for classes each week. We never realize how tired we are until Monday morning rolls around. Relaxing can be napping, hanging out with friends, or even just laying in bed watching a movie. As long as you clear your mind of school for a little bit you should be good to go. We often forget to take care of ourselves because we are so wrapped up in school.

Go enjoy college and never forget to stay true to yourself, you can thank me later for the tips! Have an amazing 4 years, you only get it once.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
