In college, or life in general, it is common to get wrapped up in someone. You spend all your time thinking about them, but maybe only a small portion of that
time physically with them. Unfortunately, you cannot seem to get inside of their
head and know what they truly feel about you. Without having an actual
conversation of where your relationship is going, you could just be further
falling into deeper feelings with someone who views you as a friend.
Here are five signs you may be in the friend zone.
1. They talk to you about other people they are
seeing. Come on, let’s face it; no one who wants to be with you would talk to you
about the other people they have feelings for. Or be with other people at all,
for that matter.
2. There is no physical contact, except an
occasional friendly hug. Another obvious sign, yet many seem to make up
delusions that the hug, no matter how nonchalant, actually means something more
than it does. It doesn’t.
3. They invite others to hang out when you only ask
them. If they wanted to spend alone time with you, they would. End of story.
4. They use pet names like buddy, pal, or
friend. Red flag. Friend means friend. Yes, there is a rare occasion where your
longtime friend might turn into something more, but usually the fairytale love
of the Chandlers and Monicas of the world only happens on TV.
5. They tell you that you remind them of their
family members. Being told you are like a sister to them is not code for, “I love
you so much that it compares to how I feel about my family.” It just means they
are comfortable with you, like they are with their sister. Friend-zoned.
So take it from Justin Long in He’s Just Not That Into You, if he (or she) wants to be with you,
they will. Otherwise, don’t spend your time wasted on focusing on someone more
than they deserve. Have fun in college and, one day, someone who shares your same
weirdness will come along and you will fall madly in love together.
