We all have that one movie that we can watch over and over again and never get tired of. For me, that movie is "Titanic." It is just one of those movies that you have to see at some point in your life. Well, let's just say I've seen this movie a few times. 65 times to be exact. The movie still gives me the chills, and I always cry like a baby when Rose lets go of Jack in the water. Now I'm sure some you are asking yourselves, "Why in the world has this girl seen the movie 65 times?" Well, I'm not really sure why. To me, the movie just never bores me. If you're anything like me, you sit there during the movie and just think about certain aspects. Here are the some of the thoughts that go through my head while watching "Titanic."
1. Using an ax for the first time.
Now we all know, that Jack gets arrested towards the end of the movie for "stealing" Rose's diamond necklace. Jack gets handcuffed around a metal pipe in a room below deck. Now if you fast forward a little, the ship starts to sink and the room Jack's in starts to flood. Eventually Rose finds Jack and she has no way of removing the handcuffs because there is no key. Rose searches the ship and finds an ax. Now let's pause for a second. Would you let some woman you just met use a very big and sharp object to try and cut handcuffs off of you? Come on, Jack, I know things are not looking very good, but let's not be stupid. Not to mention Rose has her eyes closed when she swings the axe. If that was real life, Jack probably would have lost a few fingers on that boat.
2. Why are there guns?
Rose's fiancé Cal is not the nicest guy, and that's probably an understatement. So it is no surprise when Cal tries to shoot Jack before the ship sinks. The more important question here is why are they allowed to have guns? Every time I watch this movie I always think about that. Cal doesn't have his own gun, but instead he steals his bodyguard's when he decides to go after Jack. Ultimately Rose and Jack get away because Cal runs out of bullets. But honestly, was it really worth trying to shoot the guy?
3. Why is this movie so long?
As many times as I have seen this movie, I never realized that it is almost three hours and 15 minutes long. That's a really long time to sit in front of a TV and watch a movie. About two hours in, you think to yourself, "Why is this movie not over yet?" The better question is, why does it need to be so long? If you took Jack and Rose out of the movie it would be pretty boring. Having those two characters adds to the story of the Titanic, and it potentially gives us someone to relate to. Their storyline is essentially what makes "Titanic" the classic movie it is. The length of the movie is what makes "Titanic." Imagine if it was one hour and 30 minutes. You would miss most of the factual information in the movie. So suck it up and watch "Titanic" for the whole three hours.
4. Rose and Jack both could've fit.
Probably the most controversial issue that comes from "Titanic" would be whether or not Jack and Rose could both fit on the door. When I watched the movie when I was younger I always thought Jack was sacrificing himself by allowing Rose to have the whole door. Watching it as an adult makes me realize that Rose was being selfish. She could've shared and let him get on. I would be lying if I said that I didn't yell at the TV when this part comes on in the movie. The ending could have been a lot happier if Rose would have just let Jack on the door.
5. You said you wouldn't let go.
Well, it is now that point in the movie where I start to sob like a baby. The epic moment when Rose lets go of Jack has arrived. Rose made a promise to him that she wouldn't let go. Why did you let go, Rose? This is another moment when I think Rose is being a tad selfish. I mean, OK, we obviously know that Jack is dead. He was floating in the ice cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Rose still promised that she would never let go. That moment seemed to be a turning point for Rose because she finally found the strength to call for help and ultimately saved herself. In some way, Rose never really did let go of Jack. Physically she might have, but mentally and emotionally she never did. For her, Jack always existed in her memory, and she thought about him until the day she died.
Now you know what it's like to be inside my head while watching "Titanic." Trust me, there are way more than five things that go through my head. I thought these were the most important. I think one of the reasons I am so attracted to the movie is because of the incredible story behind it. Yes, the fictional love story is great, but don't let it overshadow what really happened on April 15, 1912. The history behind the movie is what inspired me to become such a "Titanic" fanatic. If you haven't seen the movie, sorry for spoiling it for you. But really, if you haven't seen the movie, take the time to watch one of the most classic films of all time.
