5 Things You Should Do In 2017

2016 is finally about to end, which means a new year is just around the corner. It's time to celebrate the entrance of 2017 with champagne, parties, and resolutions. While not everyone makes a New Year's Resolution, and even fewer keep it, there are five things that you should definitely do in 2017.

1. Do (at least) one nice thing for someone every single day.

Give a passerby a compliment. Ask a struggling coworker if they need a hand with anything. Hold a door for someone. Volunteer in the community. Literally anything that you do for someone else out of the goodness of your heart will go such a long way to brighten their day. You never know what someone is going through - a random act of kindness can do so much more than you might think.

2. Care less about what other people think of you.

Society has set impossible standards for the definition of "acceptable." We have to weigh a certain amount, follow up with all of the latest fashion and beauty trends, have a certain career, and make a certain amount of money. The list goes on and on; and it's completely ridiculous. Stop focusing on what everyone else thinks about you and focus on what makes you happy!

3. Tell someone that you love them.

Not every day is guaranteed, and it's important to tell someone you love that you love them. Express your inner emotions and let your voice be heard. Follow number 2 while you're at it and speak your mind without fear of retribution.

4. Step outside your comfort zone.

This ties into number 2, in a sense. Perhaps you defined your comfort zone with the stereotypes about others and about yourself that you have built throughout your life. Tear down those walls and do something daring. Try a new style, wear a new lip color, or do something that you've always wanted to do, but were too scared to do it. There's no time like the present!

5. Start to love yourself, or start to learn to love yourself.

This is possibly one of the hardest things we can do as individuals. The scariest part of loving yourself is letting go of the negative things you think and hear about yourself. People are going to be critics and cynics; that's just how humans are. And you can't properly love someone else in any way until you learn to love yourself first.

I know that these are things that I'll be working on this year - let's do them all together, shall we?

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
