5 Ways To Keep Yourself Busy During Penn State's Pre-Arrival Quarantine

Since it's mandatory before we head back to school, might as well make it fun.

Pennsylvania State University has released COVID-19 precautions that they want students to take, including 30,000 students getting tested before the fall semester starts and a one week mandatory quarantine before going up to school. Since I am a member of the Penn State Blue Band, I am going back a week early, which means I have to quarantine starting this Sunday. Since I'll be stuck in my house for an entire week, I've realized that I'll become very bored very quickly. Here's a list of things I plan on doing to keep myself entertained, and hopefully it helps other people have some good ideas too.

Binge a Netflix show.

Since I will have so much free time stuck inside, I might as well binge watch a new show. My current show obsession that I started last week is Jane the Virgin on Netflix. There's four seasons, 22 episodes in each, and they run for about 42 minutes. Since i'll be inside for a week, I bet I'll be pretty close to finishing the whole series by the end of my quarantine.

Get an adult coloring book.

Adult coloring books are both fun and challenging since they're so detail-oriented. These books also tend to be fairly cheap too, which is always a bonus for college students. I've made it through cities and Mandela coloring books, and both were very time consuming.

These books help to give me some sort of mentally stimulating activity since you're focusing on staying in the lines the whole time. I'm actually about to order a Harry Styles Coloring book on Amazon for $7 and I am SO excited to just color pages of him!

Get into baking.

Recently, my mom bought the second Joanna Gaines cook book and I am so excited to try all of the desserts in there. I love baking because I find it so fun and relaxing, and you get a yummy dessert out of it. Other places to find good recipes to try are Pinterest and Tasty.

Watch old YouTube videos on your watch later list.

My YouTube watch later playlist definitely has over 100 videos there because I always have good intentions to watch it, but I usually forget to go back later and watch them (lol). If your watch later is not insanely filled like mine is, go on the explore page and find a new YouTuber's video to watch. Some of my personal favorites/recommendations are Hyram, David Dobrik, Carly and Erin, Emma Chamberlain, and Brittany Broski.

Read that book you've been putting off.

I bought a book way back in June that I was so excited to read, but I never had the patience to sit down and read it. Now that I'm sort of locked in my house, I've decided I'm finally gonna read that book. I've wanted to for so long, but every time I would go to pick it up, I'd get sidetracked easily and would lose focus.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
