Port Jervis is one of the easiest cities in New York to locate on a map. Just follow the borders of New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania and pinpoint where they all meet! This border city is one of three cities in Orange County. But if you grew up or live in or near Port Jervis, here are five things you are sure to know.

1. The Bagel Station is the place to be for breakfast.

Nobody can argue this one, Asiago bagels have my heart. Forever. Even lunch time, The Bagel Station has the best burgers, wraps, salads. I'm hungry just typing this.

2. Chances are, you have gone on a river trip.

Whether it be in a tube, a kayak, a raft or a canoe, the river is a beautiful place to spend the afternoon. The river is also the location of most senior skip day adventures. We love the Deleware River.

3. You have probably stood on Tri-State Rock.

I mean, who wouldn't? Standing in three states at once? That's some pretty cool stuff. And to think, some people have never traveled outside of their state. It seems unlikely to us, but residents of massive states or even island states, it's a little more realistic.

4. You have been to The Bell Game.

The day of the Bell game is a city-wide holiday in Port Jervis. The Bell Game is a varsity football game to determine who showcases the Erie Bell in their school. This is the one game a year that EVERYONE goes to. The whole community gets involved. We are also a part of the Great American Rivalry series!

5. Everyone knows each other.

Port Jervis has such a strong sense of community. Everyone there works together when others are in need. The picture below was taken at the Soap Box Derby! An event that draws the whole community together for some great fun. That's one of my favorite things about Port Jervis!

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
