It's that time of the summer again. The warm weather has gotten overwhelming, and although you had a whole bucket list planned out, you've spent most of your time on the couch watching mindless TV. The worst thing about summer is how easy it is to get lazy during it. So as much as it would be nice to avoid the work load of the incoming semester, sometimes that push that college provides is what we need to get up and be productive.
1. Your new semester gives you structure to your day
Having classes and legitimate adult responsibilities stop you from lying around all day. Summer consists of saying you'll do things and never doing them, but going into a new semester means you actually have to stick to your promises- and a working schedule.
2. It's easier to meet up with the people you want to see
Especially if you go to college in a different state, you tend to lose contact with the people you go to school with, even if you Snapchat every day. Going back for the fall semester means being able to meet your friends for lunch or go out together on Friday nights, without having to plan an elaborate trip to see the people you've gotten close with.
3. Taking new classes
At risk of sounding like the biggest nerd, it's actually super exciting to try out the new classes you have on your schedule. You're probably going to end up hating yourself for taking at least two of them, but if everything goes well, you're going to be going to class excited to actually be learning the things you're interested in.
4. It's a change of pace
College gets your heart rate going for sure, and sometimes that means panic attacks. But on days where you get a lot done and you can take a moment to be proud of what you're accomplishing, college is a big morale booster. You definitely feel better about yourself than you do when you're crashing on the couch for the third day in a row with bits of chips in between the cushions.
5. You get to leave town
That's probably my favorite thing about college, getting to leave the suffocating familiarity of the small town. College means a whole new environment and view, away from parents and old friends and after spending the summer trapped inside the confines of your town; leaving for college is a relief.
