5. Proper Introductions of Cyborg, Aquaman, and Flash
2016’s Suicide Squad used it’s ‘unique’ artistic approach throughout the film, especially when introducing it’s ensemble cast to the audience. Although somewhat corny, the filmmakers decided to have title cards for each character, along with their powers and histories when introducing them. The simple answer for why they did this was because most movie goers had no idea who these characters were, which is one of the many reasons the film seems out of place in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). Why this film came out before Justice League is beyond me. My hope is that Zach Snyder decides to get rid of the title cards and introduces the team in a more natural way.
4. No “Martha” Moment Between the Team
Since Justice League is the team’s first adventure out together, I am expecting them not to get along initially, after all that is a common trope in team-up films. Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice was an extreme example of this, and the moment that finally brought the two men together, a moment that should reflect the team’s strengths at the least, was downright silly. If you haven’t seen the 2016 film, I will save you the embarrassment of watching this scene that is supposed to be the pivotal point in the film and the saga overall. Basically, right before Batman nearly kills Superman, the Kryptonian mentions that the villains have his mother, Martha. And because Batman’s most repeated story arc involves the night his parents were murdered, after all this is why Bruce Wayne is now The Bat, Batman suddenly has a change of heart and decides to team up with his mere seconds ago, greatest enemy. In Justice League, I hope that the moment the team comes together isn’t as obscure as this, but actually is executed in a way that realistically unites them.
3. No Romance Between Batman and Wonder Woman
The comics has tried to do it countless times with either Batman and Wonder Woman or Superman and Wonder Woman and it never works. Almost every time it creates a love triangle between the trio and is constantly used as why the team breaks up or falls apart. Not only do I not want to see this romance in Justice League, but I don’t want to see it in any future DC films. It doesn’t create an interesting story arc, it just seems lazy. Let the two superheroes find love somewhere else or not at all. That being said DC, please don’t have Wonder Woman not try to look for love over Steve’s death. A quick homage to him is well deserved, but don’t let it get in the way of her character development.
2. Easter Eggs about “The Batfamily”
At this point the “Batman” side of DC could be its own comic book universe, since there are so many diverse characters to choose from. I have enjoyed the small ‘Easter Eggs’ about Jason Todd’s murder and look forward to seeing that in full on the big screen at some point. Because of this, I would love to see other hints of Batman’s team of heroes by his side. We already know we are getting a Batgirl film in the next few years, so why not hint at other films down the line? **cough cough** Nightwing movie **cough cough**. There are so many stories to tell from this growing section of DC comics so why not get fans excited about what’s to come?
1. Anyone but Superman talking to Alfred
At the end of the Comic Con sneak peek trailer, Alfred, played by Jeremy Irons, is seen talking to someone stating “He said you’d come, let’s just hope you’re not too late.” Although the trailer makes it look like he is talking to Superman, since the figure is seen wearing red on his shoulder, similar to Superman’s red cape, I don’t think DC would give that much away during the trailer. Sure, everyone knows that Superman is going to eventually come back, but revealing he is going to be in the movie during a trailer ruins the surprise. Personally I think the figure will be either Martian Manhunter, who is also known for his red cape, or again going back to my desire for the Batfamily to be involved in the universe, Jason Todd as Red Hood, although I know there is very little chance of that happening. But hey, let a girl dream alright?!
