When it comes to being born in December, only those who share the common ground can understand what it is truly like. For those who happily celebrate their births during the other eleven months, it may be hard to sympathize with friends who are faced with obstacle after obstacle when only trying to point out they are one year older.
1. Thinking Alice in Wonderland may have had the best idea EVER with un-birthdays.
Oh, so your birthday is December 18th? One week before Christmas? In 2014, during Hanukkah and just over a week before Kwanzaa? Perhaps you would have more success relaxing on your special day if you celebrated many of them, just not on your actual birthday.
2. At least once considering celebrating your "half-birthday."
All the cool kids did it in middle school. Having a pool party in the warm weather of June sounds absolutely dreamy. Opening gifts of cute summer clothes and beach gear. One problem: you weren't born during this awesome month. Solution? Have a half-birthday party! Please Mom!?!
3. Receiving mediocre "combined" gifts.
Strolling casually into Grandma's house for family Christmas when Aunt Susan hands you a gift identical to that of your cousin who is 5 years your junior. BUT! She whispers sweetly in your ear, "Dear, this is for your birthday and Christmas. I hope you enjoy it!" Of course, Aunt Susan, I sure will enjoy this Justin Bieber themed backpack.
4. Having to plan birthday festivities to take place weeks before (or after) your actual birthday.
Christmas. Kwanzaa. Hanukkah. New Year's Eve. How dare you impede someone attempting to celebrate their preferred holiday?! Because it is impolite, you must move your own celebration to fit your friends' schedules... or just party solo (which we all know isn't the solution to this problem).
5.Knowing even though your special day may be overlooked, you were born during the best time of the year.
So what if it is a hassle to try and make a whole day in December about you? After all, December is classically a time of giving and a time of thanks. Behind the mad dashes to the department store to buy last minute gifts are caring hearts that are warm with love. You were born amidst the chaos, but into the most joyful season of the year - and you wouldn't have it any other way.
