1. Ace of Base, “The Sign”
Yes, the one from Pitch Perfect (you know, the one where Aubrey throws up and…), but don’t let your thoughts on the sequel ruin your opinion of the song. This one, right here, is classic 90s Swedish pop (though no one can beat ABBA, not even Robyn).
2. The Cranberries, “Linger”
You’ve probably heard this on your local AC radio station and had no idea what this song was called. But, if you ever needed some easy listening after a hellishly difficult midterm, this is the perfect way to calm your nerves.
3. Savage Garden, “Truly Madly Deeply”
Ah, yes, the one every couple would slow-dance to at prom in the 90s. Every time I hear “Truly Madly Deeply”, I see 10 Things I Hate About You flash before my eyes, and I still don’t know why.
4. Fountains of Wayne, “Stacy’s Mom”
Oh. My. Gosh. Every time someone tells me that they think their professor/teacher is hot, I think of this. I know that age is just a number, yadda yadda yadda, but LOL.
5. Tears For Fears, “Everybody Wants To Rule The World”
If I could shove all of the 80s (except Michael Jackson) into one song, it would most likely be this. “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” spawned a ton of covers, including one by Lorde used for Catching Fire.
