Christmas break is officially upon us and if you’re one of those lucky individuals that are not taking any winter classes or working over the break, you might be wondering how it is you’re going to spend all of your time off. Fret no more! Here are five new shows to binge-watch over the break, and remember children: Binge responsibly!
1. Atlanta
Atlanta follows the exploits of the good-meaning but a bit awkward Earnest Marks, played by Donald Glover, as he navigates the complex but exciting Atlanta rap scene. The series premeired on Septmeber 6th, 2016 and FX has already renewed it for a second season.
2. Stranger Things
The science fiction-horror series is set in the fictional town of Hawkings, Indiana. The story begins with the disaperance of a 12 year old boy. The series received a Golden Globe nomination for best drama series and it’s first season is Netflix’s 3rd most watched season across the platform.
3. Insecure
Issa Rae went from the internet’s Awkward Black Girl to a Golden Globe nominee. Her HBO show, which is paritally based off of her 2011 web series Awkward Black Girl, comically explores the racial and social struggles of an African American woman. The first season currently holds an impressive 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
4. Westworld
Westworld is HBO’s next Game of Thrones. The high-concept drama debuted this past October and is based off of the 1973 film of the same name. The first season takes place in a futuristic amusement park, where eerily human-like androids treat guests to shoot-offs, sex, and adventures within the Western-themed park. Things go awry when the androids begin deviating from their programming. Each episode of the first season reportedly cost a whopping 10 million dollars to make.
5. The Crown
Netflix’s The Crown is a biopic about the early reign of a young and wide-eyed Queen Elizabeth II. The first season begins with the 25-year-old’s ascension to the throne and her coming to terms with leading the world most leading monarchy. The show has been praised for strong performances and writing.
