He's the one who will always be there for you, good or bad. He'll be the first to help you even when you don't ask for help. He's been around for your whole life, has helped make you who you are, and he's one of the most important men you will ever have in your life. Although as he ages, you need to grow more patient, he loves you and you need him. Here are five reasons you need to spend more time with your grandpa:
1. You are his baby’s baby.
There is absolutely no way a grandparent could love anyone more than he loves a grandchild. He raised who raised you, and believe it or not, he is one of the greatest inspirations as to how you are being raised, too. There is no question there.
2. You are his key to technology.
Do you realize that he grew up without microwaves let alone cell phones, computers and everything else we pretty much see as a necessity today? He can’t possibly do it all on his own, so that’s where he needs your help. From setting up his iPad to sharing pictures and e-mails to turning on the television, he needs you.
3. He has been there for you before you were even born.
You are the greatest gift your parents could’ve ever given him. You have no idea how much he cares for you, supports you and cheers for you every day. Make sure he feels like you do the same for him. His love is endless and his support is unwavering. Be thankful, and be sure he knows how you feel. You are so special to him, and he should feel that in return.
4. The best stories are those your grandpa tells.
“Uphill both ways…” Yes, those are the stories I mean. You laugh now, but those are the stories that will mean the most to you someday. Listen when he talks, take a moment and try to understand the world he grew up in and how much has changed since. It’s really amazing to hear firsthand how things used to be and what he can’t wait to see happen in your future. He’s undoubtedly been where you are today long before you, and he knows what he’s talking about. So let him help you. While you’re out there learning on your own, make sure you take his advice to heart. Ask questions, be interested, but mostly listen. Listen, and take it all in.
5. The best memories are spent with family.
He struggled so your family could have the life that you have today—don’t take it for granted. Everything you are today is because of your family, and when you look back on the greatest times of your life, you’ll realize they were the smallest moments spent in the presence of family laughing and enjoying each other.
