5 Reasons To Join Odyssey
Odyssey

Writing has always been one of my passions. It gives me an opportunity to speak in ways that verbal communication does not allow. The Odyssey Online has been an incredible way for the world to hear my voice. Here are reasons why you should write for Odyssey:

1. It teaches time management.

I submit articles every single week. Learning to submit by a deadline keeps you motivated and teaches the fundamentals of learning how to manage your time. Submitting weekly and looking back at how many articles I’ve submitted gives me a sense of pride that I can do anything that I put my mind to.

2. It allows your voice to be heard.

Have you ever wanted to tell the world something but didn’t know how to express your feelings? Odyssey allows you to write about anything you want. Do you want to talk about your college experiences or your favorite band? Do you need to vent about something you’re struggling with or recommend a new restaurant? Your articles can influence people in so many different ways, and your words can be read across the world.

3. It is great practice to improve your writing skills.

I have submitted pieces every week for the last nine months. I can look back at my older articles and see how much I have progressed and determine what I still need to improve on. It’s a great feeling to look back and see what was on my mind in August, and it’s exciting to wonder what I’ll be passionate about in the future.

4. It forms a community.

I adore not only submitting my own articles, but I also love reading the submissions of other Odyssey writers. I can see what’s on the minds of other writers who also go to Baylor, and I can take a peek at the writings of students from other universities. I love meeting other writers on campus and knowing that writing is a mutual appreciation.

5.There is always constant support.

The best feeling in the world is receiving a “like” on Facebook on my latest article or a “retweet” on Twitter. Seeing friends and family taking the time to read what’s on my mind makes me know that I can impact people everywhere with my words. Even if I only get one view on my pieces, I know that someone out there was interested in something I had to say. That means the world to me. Odyssey is a confidence booster, and it reminds me that I’m never alone.

If anyone out there loves writing as much as I do, I thoroughly encourage them to apply to write for Odyssey. It allows you to grow in ways I never expected, and it pushes you to become a better writer and college student. Do what you love, and write.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
