5 Reasons Why You Should Thrift

Over the years, thrift shopping among teenagers and college students has really grown in popularity. Sometimes I find myself on youtube for hours upon hours checking out the latest thrift store hauls to see if thrifting is actually something worth doing. The answer is yes! There are so many reasons why thrift shopping is becoming so popular. Without further ado, here are five reasons why you should try thrifting!

1. You get to recycle clothes

Let's face it. How many items of clothing are sitting in the back of your closet right now? By all means, I do not consider myself a hoarder, but I do have a decent amount of clothes that I have not worn in over two years. That is why many thrift stores such as The Goodwill, accept donations daily. Instead of just throwing older clothes out or never wearing them again, recycling those old ripped denim jeans can make another person super happy.

2. You can save money

If you are in college, then let me introduce you to the world of big savings and great finds.Thrift stores are notorious for being cheaper since all of the clothing is used. As a side note, if you do not like the idea of wearing used clothing, all you have to do is wash it. You can find t-shirts, jeans, jackets and so much more at such a cheaper price. I am talking about $3 shirts or $5 pants. Where else can you really find jeans for $5?

3. You can find such unique clothes

As of today, many older styles are coming back into fashion. Mom jeans, denim jackets and even velvet materials are sold in most store nowadays like Forever 21. If you want real mom jeans and a real denim jacket from the 80s, thrift stores are filled with them. In fact, you can find name brand clothes such Gucci, iZOD, the Gap and more. When you do go thrifting, do not be afraid to try on clothes you may not usually wear. Make sure you really take the time to look at everything because that is how you will find the best buys!

4. You get to bring a piece of clothing back to life

Similar to recycling, many clothes have a story. I am not the biggest fashionista, but I do find it interesting that someone wore these clothes before me. I always wonder who wore them, why they donated them and where they came from. Bringing back a clothing item from the past is a great way to ensure that it is not being wasted.

5. You get to share fun moments with friends

I would not be such a savvy thrifter if my friend did not introduce it to me. Thrifting is not for everyone, but I would at least give it a chance. I was that person who thought it was gross to wear used clothes because they smelt or looked old. After going a few times I grew to love it! I now take my friends to come experience the world of recycling clothes and trying on vintage items that your mom would have most likely worn, not to mention it is extremely fun. You never know what you will find!

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
