I am from a little town in Illinois where majority of the people are born and raised there. When I moved away to my first college, I was a little intimidated by the international students and athletes. I wasn't used to having people that weren't just like me around. When I was younger that is all I was used to, people like be. When I transferred to a new college I got put in a dorm where my whole hall is international girls. Like always I was a little intimidated by them but one day one of them asked me for a ride to the store and our friendship started from there...
1. They open your eyes to new styles.
I have always dressed the same and done my hair and make up the same. I became friends with a girl from Brazil, Argentina, and Morocco. These girls would always make me feel comfortable when I tried new things like wearing boots in a way that I never had. They make me feel extremely confident because they all think differently when it comes to style.
2. They are extremely touchy.
This is of course in a good way. Ever feel unloved? Well you won't if you become best friends with some international students. They love to give you hugs and kisses when they greet you. They are always putting an arm around you and making you feel wanted and needed. On days when I'm feeling down I can always count on one of them to come up to me and give me a hug and kiss on the cheek. They always are polite and ask how my day is going. It gives me just what I need to get through the day.
3. They show you knew cultures.
My international friends and I often have deep conversations about their religions and culture. This allows me to see how people in different parts of the world interact. Not only this but they also teach me fun words in different languages.
4. You know people in all parts of the world.
Ever want a vacation? Well I plan on traveling all over the world by the time I'm thirty. Now it's possible. I have friends in every continent so if I ever decide to visit a new country I typically have somewhere to stay.
5. You make the best friends you could ever have.
My international friends that intimidated me in the beginning quickly became my best friends. My college experience has forever been changed by them. I can't wait to visit them someday in their home country and have them teach me everything about their cultures. I would not change a single thing about our friendship, I will always love them.
