Extreme savagery: not to be taken seriously!

Most apps on cell phones were created with purpose- take Safari or Camera. They help us better perform everyday functions with ease. However, one app in particular ceases to better humanity, and rather pushes the human race backwards. In fact, it acts as a virus, annoying the masses and absorbing the precious time of the individuals that make the poor decision to interact on it.

This app is known as musical.ly and it should be discouraged from use. Millions of users are falling victim to this “trend." Well-known YouTuber RiceGum has already brought attention to this disgraceful issue in our society in his recent series of videos, “THESE KIDS MUST BE STOPPED.” He has taken the task that many have cowered away from. Now, we are furthering the movement he started with the publication of this article. The following are reasons why musical.ly should be forever banned.

1. What are you doing with your life?

Musical.ly has brainwashed the minds of many into thinking that it can be an actual career. Many have devoted much of their time into making musical.lys, hoping that it will bring them further in life with more “popularity.” As the majority of Musical.ly users are underaged, many are failing to prioritize what really matters and thus setting themselves up for failure.

2. Strikingly Bad Influence

Most of the songs that are lip-synced on the app contain explicit topics and inappropriate language that mentally deranges the otherwise pure minds of many. For example, many of the lyrics sung by artists Nicki Minaj and Miley Cyrus contain sexual references and encourage drug use. This is unacceptable for the younger generation - the future of America.

3. Heightens Electricity Bill

Videos are the easiest way to drain battery power on cellphones. As musical.ly consists of only video media, it wastes phone battery at an exponential level, causing children to have to constantly recharge their electronic devices. This depletes electricity that could be used for better purposes, or at least saved for the sake of the environment.

4. Cringe When You’re Older (More Wrinkles)

One of the worst feelings a human could possibly experience is regret. Some predict that 99% of musical.ly users today will feel enhanced embarrassment in addition to immense regret. Studies show that experiencing such negative emotions increases chances of stroke and other health-related illnesses, in addition to a wrinkly face. To prevent these horrible emotions, this terrible app should be extinguished from the face of the App Store.

5. Musical.ly* Ends Lives

As musical.ly users age, they will inevitably start to drive and will carry their bad habits along with them onto the road. Scroll through the app and you’re bound to see reckless teens lip-syncing at the wheel. This is hazardous behavior as cell phone use while driving is not only illegal in some states, but it also risks the life of the musical.ly user, not to mention other innocent rule-abiding drivers that are sharing the road. How tragic that one's last words might not be spoken, but merely mouthed as he/she is lip-syncing meaningless lyrics.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
