5 Reasons Why Having a Summer Job is Good For You

Living at home for the summer while working was probably the best decision I could’ve made. I get to live at home for free while making money. It’s a good plan because then even if I spend some money I have money for the school year. Luckily my parents still pay for everything I need, I just have to pay for things that are not necessities. I also love having a job because it’s the responsible thing to do.

1. You have money.

You have money to go and do whatever you want with. This summer is the first summer I’ve had a job. I love it. I have not had to worry about money or try and do plans that were cheap. I have fun. I have made spending my money worth it. For once I can stop worrying about money and just have fun.

2. You don’t have to ask your parents for money.

I have not asked for money this summer at all, I have been paying for the things I don’t need myself. This is a good thing. Not asking your parents for money makes them respect you more. Also they won’t get annoyed when every once in a while you ask them to buy you something.

3. You feel more responsible and independent.

Buying most things for yourself gives you a sense of responsibility and independence. I feel like I can actually do things on my own. I like having the freedom to spend money how I want. I basically just spend money on things my parents don’t want to buy for me. I like being able to make my own financial decisions.

4. Living At Home Is Nice.

Living at home during the summer is so great. You don’t have to worry about money or food. Your parents basically take care of all of your expenses. Which means you get to spend money if needed or you could save it.

5. Having a job is a very rewarding experience.

I myself work in customer service as a cashier. This is my first real job and the experience of working this job was a very rewarding experience. I learn new things every day, I know how to handle rude people. I know how to be fast but polite. I can handle things under pressure better than I could before. I can handle uncomfortable situations.

My summer job was a good thing for me. I learned new things, gained experience. I get to put my job onto my resume which will help me get hired at other places of business. I also met many new amazing people. Working in customer service is definitely a very hard job. But it is very rewarding and it’s worth it. I have made some of the customer’s days by giving them a coupon or by being extra helpful. It’s just doing little things like that make working as a cashier a hard but rewarding experience. I love my job.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
