5 Reasons Why I Chose To Write For Odyssey
Michelle Monforto

Literature is something that has always been really inspiring to me. A certain piece of writing can really take me away to another world, and that is something that I have always loved. Scrolling through different social media platforms, I would always see articles being shared, and some of them just seemed to know exactly how I felt. When I found out that I could be one of those writers I knew I had to jump on board! Listed below, I want to talk to you about the five reasons I decided to start writing for Odyssey.

1. I want to relate to people.

Like I said, I love reading articles that I can relate to, and now I have the opportunity to produce articles that others can relate to as well! Knowing how much Odyssey articles can be shared around the web, I know that I’m bound to find someone who can feel connected to what I’m saying in a personal way. In a world where people can oftentimes feel very alone, it is important to find something that reminds you that there are other people out there that are going through the same things as you. I’m hoping that through my articles, people can find hope in knowing that other people are experiencing similar situations.

2. Gain professional experience.

Being a part of a company such as Odyssey, I have an amazing platform to gain experience in writing all different types of journalism- from news articles to personal posts. As a communications major hoping to land a career in something relating to journalism and the media, this is an amazing first step. I am able to gain personal knowledge by learning more about my writing style and preferences, but I am also able to gain professional knowledge by learning how to set up a time-management platform to stick to deadlines for submitting my articles.

3. I love to write.

As simply as I can put it, I love to write! It is one of my favorite outlets to express how I am feeling. Whether it be through writing poems, songs or blog type posts, it is a way for me to open up and say what I am feeling. Now, I have the chance to do that in a way that I can share with others.

4. I can write about what I want to write about.

From personal posts dealing with things I go through in my life to political or societal topics, I truly can talk about whatever it is I’m feeling. Odyssey is a place where all are welcome, and there is something here for everyone.

5. My work will be seen.

If I can have one person read my work and feel connected or inspired then I will feel successful. Different than just having another blog where I may not reach an audience, I know that by writing for Odyssey, people will read my articles and hopefully people will relate to them! All of my articles will be on Odyssey's website and by having that amazing opportunity I know that people will be reading what I have to say.

All in all, I am very excited to start writing for Odyssey. It is an amazing opportunity and I am super pumped to take this next step!

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
