What did the 2000s bring us besides the iPhone, Britney Spears going insane, and Lizzie McGuire's venture to Rome? It brought us the wonder squad of Seth Cohen, Ryan Atwood, Summer Roberts and Marissa Cooper. That's right, we're talking about The O.C., and if you haven't seen it then you should reevaluate your life starting right now. But honestly, if you haven't seen it, you should. This famous crew of Seth, Ryan, Summer and Marissa was literally the epitome of #squadgoals and the show itself redefined our love of bagels. Last week, E! Online released an article about the CW Seed online streaming site releasing the show online for the first time ever. So basically what this means is that 20 year old girls everywhere are freaking the f**k out, and are wishing that they could once again marry Seth Cohen or Ryan Atwood. So, in honor of the best teenage soap opera being released online, finally, here's a list of reasons why we love The O.C.
1. The Soundtrack
The show's soundtrack is almost as famous as the show itself, literally. Limewire was probably going crazy during the years of 2003 and 2007 just from teenage girls downloading The O.C. soundtracks. The O.C. gave us our love of alternative bands like Death Cab For Cutie and Spoon, and the song Hallelujah will forever be ingrained in our minds as the saddest song on the face of the earth- RIP Marissa. And how could we forget "mmm whatcha say..."
2. Age was just a number
Literally I think every person on the show dated. Whether it was Julie Cooper and Caleb Nichol or Julie Cooper and Luke. Okay I guess age was just a number to Julie Cooper or Julie Cooper- Nichol, whichever one you prefer. Regardless, Julie Cooper became Kirsten Cohen's step mom and that was weird.
3. They respected all religions
Thanks to the oh so wonderful Seth Cohen, we all know very well what Chrismukkah is. It's the most wonderful time of the year, obviously. Enough said.
4. It taught us how to love NJBs (Nice Jewish Boys) over athletic, water polo playing hotties
Who likes comic books, alternative rock bands, and still has a plastic horse sitting in his room? If you guessed Seth Cohen, then congratulations, you were right! Seth was the nice Jewish boy we all wished we had at our high schools. He likes bagels and he'll name a boat after you if he falls in love with you. What more could you want?
5. Seth & Summer/Ryan & Marissa
Out of all the 2000's teen soap opera relationships, The O.C. takes the cake for the best ones. Seth and Ryan both were head over freaking heels for Summer and Marissa and would literally do anything for them. I mean, Seth stood on a coffee cart to confess his love for Summer and Ryan saved Marissa's life so...
Well, here's to you Seth, Ryan, Summer and Marissa. You were the best thing to happen to 2000s teen soaps and we will forever be grateful of all the wonderful things you brought to our lives. Welcome to online streaming, B*itch!
