5 Reasons Students Hate Going Back To School

Sometimes it all just makes me want to cry.

As school slowly approaches, most people are thrilled to be able to see their classmates, purchase all the school supplies that they need and even get some new clothes. But, as true as that is, there are also many who hate going back to school, myself included. Going back to school is one of the worst things an adolescent has to endure. These are five of the most common reasons why students everywhere wish summer lasted just a little longer.

5. Taking Tests

When it comes to taking tests, there's always the pressure of passing or failing, and/or your parents making you sleep in the theoretical dog house the following night. You're almost guaranteed to be cramming in late-night study sessions in which you wind up getting two hours of sleep, causing your grades to worsen ever so slightly. As a student, going out is not an option if you have a test the next day and are hoping to pass, which is one of the biggest reasons why students hate test-taking.

4. Homework

Homework may be one of the least favorite things that has ever had to be done. Not only is homework stressful, but it is also time consuming and tedious. There are days where you're stuck in your room all day, only to come out if you're in desperate need of going to the bathroom or if your mother won't let you eat in the bedroom. What may even be worse is when three of your teachers happen to each assign a packet of homework that night which is due for the next day. At that point you will probably want to rip your own hair out.

3. Having Classes With Mean Girls (Or Guys)

Sometimes there are people you completely cannot bear to be around because they have been rude to you for ages, but for some reason, you can't help but be in every class with them. Throughout the whole summer you dreaded the chances of having class with them for yet another year. Unfortunately, you were bound to see them again regardless; it was only a matter of time.

2. Having To Learn New Things

As much as learning new things is a wonderful thing, it can also be a hassle. For a student learning to get around to their new classes, it sometimes seems as if you're running around like a wild, headless chicken. You have to learn new teachers' names every year. And don't get me started on trying to remember your new locker combination. Having to take in all of this new information will make everyone want to run home and dive right back into the pool.

1. Waking Up Early

Waking up early is really a struggle for pretty much everyone. The most difficult part of adjusting to your early school schedule is that you had the ability to sleep late all summer, which completely throws your body off. Give it a few weeks to really manage the time change.

All in all, as much as students may have an immense hatred for school, especially after summer vacation is over, the short-term struggles will be worth it in the end.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
