One thing Ohioans always appreciate during the summer is Lake Erie, even though it might not be the cleanest of the Great Lakes. The lake offers us so much to do, and so many memories to make. We are so fortunate to live in such a pretty place, even with the insane amount of tourists each summer. Here are 5 reasons why living by the lake is the best during the summer.

1. The views

The lake gives some of the best sunrises and sunsets, no matter what season it is. They create the best pictures. Sitting on the beach with friends while watching the sunset should definitely be on your bucket list!

2. Ice Cream

Northwest Ohio has some of the best local ice cream shops, and there's plenty for everyone by the Lake. Whether it's on the beach or a quick drive away, the options are endless. The lake is home to Ohio's oldest dairy, Toft's, which sells hard scooped flavors, while many local places serve soft serve. Everyone will find a flavor they like!

3. The beach; all day, everyday.

The best way to spend summer vacation is sitting on the beach all day. Whether you're hanging with friends, tanning in the sun, or at a family picnic, the numerous beaches and state parks allow everyone to be entertained all day. It's so much fun to lay down and read a book while watching the boaters go by.

4. Put in Bay

Put in Bay is one of the hottest destinations on the lake, and many tourists and locals visit the island each summer. It's full of local restaurants, wineries, shops, and historical landmarks. Whether you're a tourist or a local, Put in Bay is always a great day or even weekend getaway.

5. Cedar Point

If you're an adrenaline junkie (but not like me), you have to visit Cedar Point, one of the largest amusement parks in the world. This Charles Schulz's Peanuts theme park has roller coasters and rides for all, and are always expanding. Many people who are from the surrounding area have season passes, but many tourists also visit the park and the surrounding area on a daily basis.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
