5 Reasons Why Jeremy Jahns Is The Best Film Critic

I love movies. I love watching them, talking about them, breaking them down and so much more. And while it’s hard to narrow down exactly where my love of movies came from (whether it being fond childhood memories or something else), there is no denying that the YouTube film critic Jeremy Jahns has inspired me in a huge way. Ever since I stumbled upon his channel in 2011-ish, I have had the time of my life watching his work unfold before my eyes. So here are five reasons why Jeremy Jahns is the one of the best film critics:

He Started Out Small

Like most people in this world, Jeremy Jahns had to start from the bottom, and in this case, the bottom of YouTube. His channel started out in 2007 (YouTube’s infant days) just doing what he and his buddies all loved to do: talk about movies. And almost ten years later, Jahns has reached a huge milestone of one million subscribers and is still growing. He is just another example of someone who worked hard and did what they loved to achieve greatness

His Energy Knows No Bounds

If you have watched any of Jeremy’s videos, you will know that he absolutely LOVES what he does. Even when he thinks a movie is bad or boring, he still finds a way to keep his audience refreshed and entertained. Through the use of sharp editing and sheer eagerness, Jeremy helps make his reviews fun, enjoyable, and clever. Of course there can be exceptions to these statements, but I have found that even in his lowest states, he can still keep a video fresh and amazing.

He Is Honest

When Jeremy sees a movie he thinks is horrible, he will tell you straight up that is the equivalent of dog excrement (more on that later). When Jeremy sees a movie that he absolutely loves, he will always come right out and say that it was incredible. The thing is that Jeremy is not on YouTube to break down movies right to the very core in the most proper of manners. His sole purpose is to inform the audience exactly what he thinks and he rarely apologizes for it. And the best thing about his honesty is that it is not out of spite, rather, it is simply for us (the viewer) to enjoy.

He Developed The Perfect Rating System

Jeremy Jahns has never been a fan of rating systems for movies. They limit our views on how good or bad a movie is because it’s all based on our own perceptions. That’s why (in true Jahns fashion) Jeremy made his own rating system that seems to be paying off. From worst to best they are: Dogsh*t, You're not gonna remember it in T-Minus ___ 1 day (or any unit of time), A good time if you're drunk, A good time no alcohol required, Worth buying on Blu-ray, and Awesometacular. Instead of being numerical or quantitative, his system of ratings comes from the feeling you feel after seeing a film as opposed to just a number. At first glance, the system is brash, but when you take a step back it’s very Awesometacular (see what I did there?).

He’s A Person Just Like You And Me

The word “fancy” or “pompous” or “proper” doesn’t come to mind when talking about Jeremy Jahns. He’s his own person just like you are your own person. He reads comic books and watches television. You won’t see him eating caviar with the elites because he loves being himself. Jahns recognizes that his opinion isn’t higher than anyone else’s and that’s why he is such an inspiration to me and many others. Jeremy Jahns has become a huge voice in the YouTube community and I wish him all the luck in the world for years to come!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
