We need God to get up in the mornings
Let’s face it, it’s a tremendous struggle to get up in the mornings period. Much less when you have an eight a.m. every day of the week. Starting your morning off with Jesus will help you through the rest of your day and protect you from Satan’s attacks
We need God to help us through the stressful times
Although we all thought we would never make it through high school, or we’d never pass that test. We find out college is much worse. It seems like all your professors manage to schedule tests and quizzes on the same day. And, at the end of the semester, you’d swear finals were made by the devil. This is when God comes in. He takes away our apprehensions and replaces them with a peace that cannot be matched by anyone else. He calms our nerves so we can remember what we’ve learned.
We need God to get us through our first college break-up
At some point, you will find an attractive boy or girl and go out a few times. More likely than not, the first person you meet in college is not for you. You’ll spend weeks getting to know them and probably even let them into your life. Eventually you’ll realize this is not the person God designed for you and have to go your separate ways. This, like all other break-ups, will be difficult. This will be even worse because for the first time you have to deal with a broken heart without your friends’ and family’s support. This is why we call on God. He is the only one that truly has answers to our questions; he is the great physician and healer. He can even mend the saddest of hearts. He will be there when you feel like you can’t trust anyone. He will get you through it.
We need God because He won’t disown you when you fail your first test
Failing a test is often looked at as a common occurrence among students in college. Everyone has done it. You may have been at the top of your class in high school, even graduated valedictorian. But, you will fail a test at some point. Many parents really push their kids academically. Some may even be upset if their child fails a test, but with God it’s different. As children of God, we never have to worry about being scolded for not making the A-honor roll or for forgetting a few items on the midterm. We fail him daily for far more terrible sins, and he realizes this. He will never turn his back on you for even the most atrocious sin much less failing a test. He has a love that will never fail, and he shows us that daily.
We need God to be our home away from home
It will happen when you least expect it. The homesick feeling you thought you’d never get will set in. You’ll be in your room alone and all of the sudden have tears in your eye reminiscing the sunny days back home. You spent almost two decades with these family and friends. It’s normal to miss this. When it happens, turn to Jesus. He will give you comfort for an aching heart. He will remind you of where you came from and why you are the amazing person that you are. He will remind you of all the blessings he has bestowed upon you, and you will be remind why you are there.
At the end of the day, we have so many things to be thankful for. Often, in college, it’s super easy to overlook these blessings. Be sure to thank him every day and put him first in all you do. You will see a dramatic change in your life, and college will become way easier!
To remind you you’re never alone:
“…for He hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.” Hebrews 13:5
