Congratulations! After a semester of stressing, crying and losing your sanity over your schoolwork, all of your hard work has finally paid off. There is no better feeling than recieving that letter in the mail that says, "You've made the Dean's List," or, "You've made the President's List!" Suddenly all those late night, caffeine-induced study sessions seem totally worth it to you, although they may not have seemed that way at the time. And with that sense of accomplishment also comes a sense of relief, and later on a sense of dread when you realize that you're about to do it all over again. Here's a list of all the reactions you may have when you finally make the Dean's List.
1. "I'm freaking brilliant!"
Because there is nothing like the sense of accomplishment you get when you realize that you are one of the few kids in college to achieve such a prestigious honor. You studied your brains out, cried over your future, and questioned your sanity, but in the end you came out on top and realized that you were smarter than you thought. Now, you have every right to brag to all your friend's about the fact that you're one of the smartest there is!
2. "I made it, but it killed me."
Do you remember how it felt when you had to run the mile all throughout middle and high school? How the first couple of laps were a total breeze, but by the time you reached the end you were practically dragging yourself across the finish line? You probably feel the same way now that your semester has finally ended, right? The semester has officially drained you of all your energy, smarts and sanity. You get that feeling that says, "This semester has killed me, but I made it and that's what counts."
3. For all the haters that doubted you.
Because when you finally decide to tell your friends that you want to make the Dean's or President's List there's always that one friend that tells you it's a far-fetched idea and that you can keep dreaming. Then you're forced to listen to how impossible it is to actually acquire a decent GPA while in college, when in all actuality it may not be as hard as it's cut out to be. Well this one's for all the people who decided to doubt you. Next time, have a little faith. You got this.
4. "That's never happening again."
Because sometimes you may feel as if you just got lucky and pulled those good grades out of a magic hat. However, we can assure you that miracles are few and far between in college. You can't pray for an A on a test and study for a B, and making straight A's (or A's and B's) isn't something that you can just get lucky on. Good grades have to be earned in college, and you well earned it. So don't doubt yourself. If you did it once, we definitely believe you can do it again!
5. Then you realize you have to do it again.
That's right. Making the Dean's List is a great accomplishment, but don't celebrate for too long because another glorious semester is waiting for you just around the corner. So enjoy your short break from classes while you have it, because before you know it you'll be right back to staying up into the wee hours of the morning cramming for tests, chugging caffeine and contemplating the possibility of becoming a college drop out. Don't worry though. Graduation will be here before you know it.
