Growing up, I've listened to country, pop, rock, jazz and hip-hop. The one band that has always stuck with me through the thousands of groups and songs I have heard is Rascal Flatts. With every new album or song they release, they never fail to show me a little more to life. Their lyrics remind me of struggles, triumphs, happiness and sadness. They show me how hard life can be, but then reveal the happiness life can bring. Rascal Flatts never fail to amaze me on the precision in their sound and lyrics. Here are just a few of the lyrics that have inspired me over the years.
1. "There comes a time in everyone's life, when all you can see are the years passing by, And I have made up my mind that those days are gone." - "I'm Movin' On"
Even though we may not see past the troubles currently happening, "movin' on" is probably the best thing to do. We need to see that as time passes our troubles go as well. Without "movin' on," how can we truly live?
2. "Oh, but Heaven knows those years without you, were shaping my heart for the that day I found you, if you're the reason for all that I've been through, then I'm thankful for the day before you." - "The Day Before You"
I never looked at love this way. One day, we are going to find the person we are meant to spend our lives together with, but we have to go through the darkness in order to get there. What we go through shapes us to be the strong people we are, which leads us to our person.
3. "'Cause when push comes to shove, you taste what you're made of, you might bend, 'til you break, 'Cause it's all you can take, on your knees you look up, decide you've had enough, you get mad, you get strong, wipe your hands, shake it off, then you stand, then you stand." - "Stand"
This is one of my favorite lyrics of all the Rascal Flatts songs. We all fall down, get hurt, feel defeated and sometimes don't want to get back up, but we take those times and use them to get stronger as we stand up and try life again.
4. "Love who you love, with all that you have, and don't waste the time that flies so fast." - "Love Who You Love"
This lyric just reminded me how short our time is. Life is so precious and it can be taken from us at any moment. We need to tell those people we love just that and embrace them as much as we can with the time we are given.
5. "If it’s cold outside, show the world the warmth of your smile." - "My Wish"
I love all the lyrics in this song, but this line has always stuck with me. No matter how cruel, mean or cold life can be, we have to continue on and smile. Kill them with kindness.
There are so many other amazing lyrics by Rascal Flatts other than these five. I hope that they continue to make music as long as they can because they have not only created a bunch of memorable songs and lyrics, but they have changed my life.
