Anyone who knows me knows that I have an unhealthy obsession with quotes. (If you don't believe me, just check out my Pinterest board.) With the craziness of second semester coming to a close, I think that it's incredibly important to read encouraging words in order to help us remember what matters the most. So, without further ado, here are five of my favorite quotes that I believe have the power to change your life.

1.

This is my favorite quote of all time. When I stumbled upon it a couple of years ago, it instantly changed my outlook on life. It's an amazing feeling to know that while we live in a world full of hate and greed and human error, we can still find a reason to try and live our lives as good people. We can still choose to be forgiving, kind, honest, happy, and good. We can choose to be a person who is loving and gracious because, in the end, it's between us and a higher power. When we're all on our death beds, nothing in life will matter except for the memories that we made and the mark that we left as a person. This quote reminds me to always try to be the best version of myself, no matter what others around me are doing.

2.

I think that it's very easy to compare ourselves to others, especially in this generation. We are constantly looking for validation from Instagram likes and we experience FOMO from Snapchat stories. It's also very easy for us to live in the past, to either wish that life was how it used to be or wishing that we had never done something. This quote is a great reminder to me that I really need to live in the present and stop caring so much about what other people are doing. Instead, I should be focusing on what I'm doing and how I'm bettering myself as a person.

3.

This is an amazing quote by Roald Dahl. We have only one life and we must not merely exist in it. We need to find things that we are passionate about and, once we are so lucky to find them, we must squeeze them of every last drop until they become us. We become truly alive when we are passionate. We become truly alive when our eyes go big and our smile widens. We become truly alive when we talk loudly and boldly. We become truly alive when we are overly excited to wake up in the morning and too electrified to sleep. That's when you know that you've become passionate. That's how you know that you're truly living.

4.

This next quote is one that we must always remember. It is so much easier to forgive yourself for something that you did with good intentions for than to wonder for the rest of your life if you should have done it. Life is short and in order to truly live, we must do things that scare us, things that make our heart race, and things that bring us out of our comfort zone. We should never regret the things that made us feel alive.

5.

This is so incredibly important to remember. We often tell ourselves things like, "If I just make it through this week or get this promotion or find someone to love, I will finally be happy." However, this isn't true. You could have everything in the world and still have days when you feel sad or lonely. Why is that? It's because we are human and happiness comes and goes. Happiness is a mood and it is fleeting. This is why we must cease waiting and choose to be happy. Don't get me wrong, it can be difficult sometimes and it's OK to be sad or angry. However, that only makes it that much sweeter when happiness does come to us. We must choose to make the most of our moments and we must choose to think positive thoughts. We must choose to be happy as much as we can.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
