If you're like me, you're always looking for natural and organic ways to do things. Not only do organic ingredients help the environment, but they also make you feel amazing.
One of the most talked about ingredients is coconut oil - it's a magic substance that does literally everything, among other wonders like olive oil and apple cider vinegar.
The best recent investment I have made that's completely life-changing is Trader Joe's Organic Virgin Coconut Oil Packets. Instead of having to lug my jar around and scrape stuff out and melt it in order to use it, I now have a bunch of 15mL packets of coconut oil in a box. So I spread them all out at different stations...
And this is what I have done with them:
1. One Packet in my makeup bin
I use this as a natural contour, swiping a quick finger of coconut oil along my cheekbones and the tip of my nose after I've applied my makeup. It makes my skin look super fresh, dewy and glowy.
On the other hand, I like to keep it in my makeup bin with a few Q-tips handy because if I mess up my eyeliner/mascara or if I need to get my makeup off, I dip them in the coconut oil and use it to remove precise areas of blackness.
2. Several packets by the shower
I say this because, instead of using shaving cream or conditioner, I like to lather my legs up with coconut oil before whipping out the razor. It naturally hydrates your skin while softening your hair, which gives you a smoother shave. It also leaves your skin smelling good.
Next, when you're needing a deep condition, these packets come in handy. Because my hair gets oily easily, I only use one packet per deep-condition session and apply it to the ends of my hair only. I then will wrap it in a bun and put a shower cap on and go to sleep. I can be at ease knowing I'm not putting a bunch of chemicals I can't pronounce into my hair.
In the winter, when your skin gets dry, or if you have dry skin naturally, put a packet in your bath water and soak to replenish your skin's need for hydration.
3. In the kitchen
When I'm feeling slow and bloated as the result of bad eating, I often use it to replace butter. I prefer this over olive oil because, to me, it has a better taste. Rethink this if you aren't a fan of coconut.
If you are dieting, swallowing about a tablespoon or so is a great natural appetite suppressant.
When you are feeling sick, catching a cold or just have a dry/sore throat, melt a teaspoon with honey to soothe and cleanse. My favorite thing when I'm feeling sick is to add a few drops of lemon essential oil to my spoonful. It makes it tasty but also gives another health boost.
4. On my bedside table
At night time I often wake up in the night desperately needing chapstick or moisturizer for dry lips and hands. These packets come in handy because coconut oil doubles as both, and more.
If I am chillin' on my bed and happen to notice hangnails, wounds, scabs, dry nostrils, etc, the coconut oil has me covered for all of that.
5. In the drawer with my toothpaste
If I run out of mouthwash or don't have time to brush my teeth again, a quick swish of coconut oil diluted with warm water is a life saver. It kills bad breath and harmful bacteria, plus has teeth-whitening potential.
I wear my retainer every night, and it gets pretty gross pretty fast. I like to soak it in a cup with warm water, coconut oil and apple cider vinegar to get it fresh and clean.
Other things I like to soak in that same mixture include makeup brushes, tweezers, nail clippers and jewelry.
