Spending summer in the city means a constant need to cool down with A/C and finding quirky ways to keep your body from overheating. As soon as you walk outside from the cool breeze of your air conditioning and step onto the pavement, you encounter the heat rising off the pavement which is trapped between the buildings around you. One of my favorite ways to beat the heat in any city is to grab a nice ice cream cone. I instantly am relieved and satisfy my sweet tooth. Luckily Boston has some great ice cream options to help you cool down when you find yourself overheated and in need of a nice break from the heat.
1. Toscanini's
Toscanini's is located in Cambridge right near MIT. Year after year it has been voted one of the best ice cream shops in Boston for its quirky and enticing flavors. Toscanini's always has 32 flavors for you to choose from which change daily so that you can try a new flavor each time you go in for a scoop. They have everything from classic flavors like chocolate chip or coffee to inventive flavors like peanut butter cookie dough to thin mint. It is definitely worth a trip over to Cambridge to give this sweet ice cream place a try which The New York Times says has, "the world's best ice cream."
2. Lizzy's
Another ice cream shop located in Harvard Square is Lizzy's which is a classic place to get ice cream. It will bring you back to your favorite ice cream place as a child with its original flavors and fun vibe. Lizzy's offers ice cream, yogurt and has some dairy free options. The ice cream options are endless and satisfy every customer's desires. The flavors range from cinnamon to Charles River Crunch to peppermint stick to black raspberry. 5. FoMu
FoMu is a newer addition to the ice cream scene. It founds its place in the ice cream market as it caters to those who are lactose intolerant. Personally, I have always loved ice cream. It was, and still remains, my favorite treat in the world. However, last year I was told that I was lactose intolerant so I have had to find other ways to satisfy my sweet tooth without pulling away from the creamy, delicious treat that I always ate. Luckily, there are lots of products on the market today for those with lactose allergies. I am so glad that FoMu is open in Boston and offers dairy-free ice cream that tastes as good as a normal scoop of ice cream. With coconut milk as the base its taste remains creamy and keeps me going back for more. FoMu offers a collection of fun flavors from magic bar to peanut butter to mint chip. Luckily I don't have to sacrifice my love of ice cream thanks to FoMu.
