If you are visiting central Texas near Kerrville or Fredericksburg, there are a few places you should check out. Below are five of my favorites, and you should definitely try to visit them if you can!
1. Kerrville/Schreiner State Park
The first area to visit would have to be the Kerrville/Schreiner State Park. The Guadalupe River runs through the park, and it is a fun place to walk your pets, fish, swim or even kayak. Additionally, many of the high school and college kids find intriguing ways to have fun. For instance, many students enjoy going to the dam in Ingram on the Guadalupe River. At the dam, students will bring tubes and floats and glide down the dam like a water slide.
2. Coming King Sculpture Prayer Garden
Speaking of staying in Kerrville, you should also make a quick trip to the “Coming King Sculpture Prayer Garden.” The garden has free admission and is twenty-three acres filled with stunning sculptures engraved in script, and it even features the notable, “Empty Cross.” The “Empty Cross” is seven stories tall and sits on top of a hill overlooking the beautiful city of Kerrville. Everyone is welcome to visit the garden regardless of their religion. It is a place designed to help you grow closer to God and find your inner piece. According to The Coming King Foundation, “The Empty Cross is believed to be the most symbolic cross sculpture in the world because of its Biblical symbolism.“
3. Enchanted Rock
In addition, if you are in the mood to have a hiking adventure, the best place to go would be Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg. Enchanted Rock is a huge hill and hiking trail that is completely covered in granite. It is a remarkable experience hiking up the hill, and the view at the top is breathtaking. The entrance fee is seven dollars for adults, and children can get in for free. Furthermore, there are certain sections of the park where you can set up a campsite and stay the night.
4. Downtown Fredericksburg
Once you are done hiking, you should stop by downtown Fredericksburg. Downtown Fredericksburg is a happening area for tourists. If you love window shopping, this is the town to visit. It has streets filled with rows of unique stores and restaurants. One of my favorite stores is Dogologie because it is jam-packed with adorable puppy clothes and treats. One of my favorite restaurants is Wheelers. They are known for having one of the best burgers in town. In addition to burgers, they have great home cooked German inspired dishes.
5. St. Mary's Catholic Church

Another historic place in Fredericksburg is St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The chapel towers over the small town, making it the heart of Fredericksburg. Not only is it known for its outstanding beauty, the church committee is extremely friendly and welcoming. The church is open for visitors, but the times the chapel is open to the public varies by day.
On the outside, there might not seem like there is much to do in the Texas Hill Country, but if you really look, there are plenty of budget friendly activities and places to check out during your stay.
