Each "new year," the phrase new year, new me becomes the thing to say as everyone makes new years resolutions that in the end last about a week, and then are forgotten until the next year rolls around. I myself am guilty of promising myself that I will do things I know will never happen. But, I have come up with some New Years resolutions I think everyone can keep if they put forth a little effort.
1. Going to the gym
I'm pretty sure this is almost everyone's New Years resolution, and more often than not, does not get followed through with, and I totally get it. Going to the gym every day can be really hard. Whether you're too busy with school, work or just life, getting to the gym can be tough. However, one thing I've noticed is that people often set a resolution to go EVERY DAY and lose a TON OF WEIGHT. While this can be reasonable for some people, for many it is not and that's totally okay. Going to the gym should be a stress reliever, not a stress inducer. So if you can only go three times a week, then do that! Or even once, just remember you made the resolution for a reason, and to put effort into your goals.
2. Eating healthier
Similarly to working out, eating healthy can be difficult as well. Fast food that is bad for you is cheaper and easier, but not so great for your health. It's totally acceptable to have a cheeseburger with fries every once in a while, but if that is a daily habit, try to cut back little by little. You don't have to quit cold turkey, just remember that.
3. Spending less money
Whether it be on food, clothes, or whatever else, spending less money can be difficult. Try setting a weekly budget for yourself, allowing a little room for spending money for fun things, but not as much as you would normally let yourself spend. Sticking to a budget can be very helpful in seeing just how much things cost and how much money you're actually spending and saving. Also, try eating in instead if going to a fancy restaurant, and maybe recommend your friends come over to hang out instead of going out.
4. Staying connected with family
Call your family! They do want to hear from you and know what is going on in your life. Even if it's just a 5-minute phone call, a small gesture of calling your Grandma once a week can really go a long way.
5. Working harder in school/at a job.
I always find that the new year gives me a reason to start anew and work a little harder in school and at my job. Push yourself just a tiny bit harder and eventually, it will pay off.
Just remember, the new year doesn't mean you have to be a brand new person, but there is nothing wrong with trying to become the best version of yourself that you can be.
Happy New Year!!!!
