Avocados are a huge hit in many places all over the world. It was recently in the news that in Australia the price and demand for avocados is going up dramatically. No wonder!! Avocados are so creamy and delicious that you can eat them in a salad, smoothie, sandwich, or another meal options. It can replace your cream cheese/jelly on toast and/or it can replace tomatoes on a turkey sub.
This tasty veggie-like fruit is grown in California, Mexico, and Central America where it can get lots of sunlight. It was thought of to have originated in Puebla, Mexico and was named after the Spanish form, "aguacate" and many people nickname it "fuerte" from Spanish, "strong" because the crops of avocados that withstood heavy frosts. Avocados have so many good things for you like good fats, fiber, copper, Vitamin K (I didn't even know the vitamins went that far), and there is even some potassium in there too!
I have recently been obsessed with avocados, not just because they are a Hispanic fruit, but because of a salad that I had down in South Carolina. I have been eating them on toast with eggs on the side, in California roll sushi, and in wraps with turkey and cheese and a spicy ranch sauce. Other than the ways I have mentioned, there are so many other combinations and recipes that you can put together and create a magnificent treat or a great facial. Here are some that I hope YOU might try and that I really want to try in the future!
Avocado Brownies
Okay, whoever invented avocado brownies is my hero; chocolate mixed with some amazingly tasty salad-topper? Yes please! This is probably one of the healthiest recipes for a dessert* I have seen. It has so many all-natural ingredients (including cocoa) that it would be the first thing on my list for an avocado dish to make. I knew that you could pretty much put any veggie or fruit in brownies, but this is just the Bomb.com.
*It has also been brought to my attention that you can also make avocado lime cheesecake... hello! So if you are into those kind of rich desserts I would totally go for it!
Avocado Smoothies
I am a field hockey player, and I try to always look for new and delicious sweet things to eat that don't have a lot of fat and/or calories and gives me energy. I have been looking up some pretty amazing recipes for avocado smoothies and they look amazing. Most call for honey or agave, maybe some added frozen fruit, some coconut/rice/almond milk, and maybe some extra Chia seeds for antioxidants, but no matter how you do your smoothie, the creamy avocado is going to make it thick and rich (also energizing).
Avocado Face Masks
Honey is great for making face masks, but honey, avocados are a girl's new best friend; they can make faces smooth and clear. Some recipes for avocado face masks have as few as two or three ingredients, depending on if you wanted a scrub or a mask. So invite all of your gal pals over for a spa night and don't worry about getting too many things, you might find them in your pantry or fridge!
Avocado Breakfast (Bar)
Avocados are pretty versatile fruits, but, for breakfast I have to say they are the most versatile. I said avocado breakfast bar because you could pretty much start with avocados and start piling all the good stuff onto/into it. For example, you could make a breakfast sandwich with avocado, bacon, eggs and tomatoes, or you could make a wrap with eggs and some avocado, avocado as spread on toast, the possibilities are almost endless when you think of breakfast time.
Fried Avocado
As far as comfort food goes, this one takes the cake. I couldn't not do something that was fried; who doesn't love creamy and crunchy mixed together? Making fried avocados is so easy too, all you need is a bit of eggs, flower, and breadcrumbs (recipes may vary) and then dip them in your favorite condiment, I would recommend ranch or something similar.
I hope that you will enjoy avocados as much as I have grown to love them! Cooking with avocados has never been easier, but even though they are super delish it isn't good to have them super often. BUT, going grocery shopping at the beginning of the week could be exciting when you get to the produce isle and pick out your three or four avocados for the week! So go home, grab your husband/boyfriend/best friend/mother/father/sister/stuffed animal, get into your pantry and get cooking!
