There are many things one looks forward to when summer rolls around. The beach, the sun, vacations, etc. For "Orange Is the New Black" fans, summer means a new season of one of Netflix's most popular shows. For those who are unfamiliar with OITNB, it is a fictional TV show only available on Netflix that follows the lives of inmates at Linchfield Woman's Prison. After having completed season four, it's time to reflect and review the most shocking parts of this awesome show.
5. Alex and Lolly kill a prison guard
At the end of season three, Alex was being attacked by a prison guard, a hit man in disguise sent to kill her from one of her former drug lord bosses. At the beginning of season four, Lolly comes along and saves Alex from her attacker. At the time it looked as if Lolly had killed the hit man, but he is only unconscious and later on, Alex ends up killing him. What follows, along with help from a fellow inmate, they cut the body up and bury the remains in the prison garden. Nothing says drama like a murder.
4. Sofia's attempted suicide
Sophia, the show's only transgender woman, was transferred from Linchfield to maximum security and sentenced to isolation. As an attempt to get out of Max, she tried a number of different tactics. Not eating, flooding her room, setting her bed on fire and then finally taking on drastic turns of trying to end her life by slitting her wrists.
3. Lolly gets sent to Psych
For most of this season Alex, Lolly and a few other inmates try and keep the murder of Alex's attacker a secret. But when the body parts are eventually found, an investigation in the prison begins. Lolly, who suffers from hearing voices in her head, had confessed earlier in the show to killing the attacker to one of the prison's counselors. However, because she showed signs of having schizophrenia or paranoia, she was just seen as someone who made this up because she's crazy. But after finding the body parts and remembering Lolly's confession, she is sent off to the psychiatric ward and is not seen for the rest of the season.
2. Piper gets branded
In season three, Piper Chapman had begun a secret business to make more money. The business being she and fellow inmates would wear sexy underwear and then sell them, unwashed, to customers around the world. When a fellow business rival threatens her, Piper rats her out to the guards and gets the inmate three to five more years in jail. This action also reveals the racial profiling that happens following this incident. As an act of revenge, Piper is captured and branded with a swastika on her arm by the rival inmate.
1. Poussey's death
Poussey was one of the nicest, caring and wonderful human beings you could possibly meet in a prison. She was accidentally killed when a peaceful protest turned violent. A guard, who had her pinned by his knee on the floor, was attacked from behind and accidentally suffocated her. Although the viewers at home could see it was an accident, the final episode of this season revolves around the issue of her death and the actions that should be taken forward. I won't reveal what happens. You're going to have to watch this season to find out what happens.
