Having a puppy teaches you a lot more than you may think. When originally getting my fur baby I knew my life would change, but I never knew how much it would help me grow as a person. Getting a puppy is a life changing experience and I must say it's for the best.
1. Patience
Having a pup definitely will teach you patience, puppies take time. Training alone takes months, potty training, in particular, will have you counting to ten, so you don’t freak out. Trust me; you will go through a moment or maybe a few moments where you ask yourself “why did I get this puppy, how am I supposed to do this?”. But then you snap back to reality and look into those little puppy eyes and you know you could never stop loving the little one
2. Time management
Again I will say, puppies take time. My schedule has become more diligent due to my fur baby. Pups should have a routine when it comes to training, daily walks, and regular feeding times. Most of all you need to make time for a puppy, it’s not fair for the little one to be stuck in a crate all day
3. Commitment
Having a pet is a huge commitment, that little puppy is a lot more work than you think. When it comes to training, going on walks, vet appointments and so on the puppy is a priority. It’s not fair to get a pup and not have the time to properly take care of the baby, it’s like having a child, you can’t just leave them alone all day, they need time and attention.
4. Joy
Regardless of how frustrated you may become at your four legged friend when they chew up your favorite shoes you can't seem to stay upset when you see that happy puppy face running towards you when you walk through the door. I find it hard to believe that anyone could not love the smell of sweet puppy breathe or their little round bellies. I don’t think I’ve smiled more since picking up my little black lab.
5. Unconditional Love
Coming home to a wagging tail and wet puppy kisses makes my heart melt. The love a pup can bring truly is unconditional, that little baby relies on you for so much, but then you realize you actually rely on them too. I truly believe that dogs can sense our feelings, when we're upset they seem to know, when we’re sick they seem to understand and stay by your side for comfort and support.
