It's summertime in Milwaukee and you know what that means. It's time to run to your nearest ie cream shop! Milwaukee, part of America's Dairyland, if full of some of the best Ice cream (or frozen custard if you take yourself too seriously). Over the last three years, I've been around the block once or twice when it comes to ice cream and these are the best places I've been to thus far. (Not ranked in any order)
1. Kopps
If you haven't been to Kopps your missing out. If you like frozen custard and burgers the size of your face this is the place for you. First off the custard is ridiculously cheap. Kopps has different flavors every day so you never are stuck with the same old boring flavors (although they do have just plain vanilla and chocolate if you are not feeling the flavor of the day). These flavors range from typical flavors like butter pecan to more exotic things like maple syrup and pancakes. They also have amazing sundaes and can make any of their flavors into shakes. It's a little bit of a commute to get to any Kopp's locations but totally worth the experience. 10 out of 10 will stop later today to get some
2. Purple door
If your find yourself on the south side of Milwaukee this is a place you have to stop by. Unlike Kopps, there are more than just four flavors to choose from on a daily basis. Much like Kopps though, this place has a variety of different flavors. They have more of your classics but they also offer alcohol flavors and more unusual ones like Arnold Palmer. The Ice cream cakes are so pretty to look at you almost don’t want to eat them. They also have sorbets if you aren't feeling ice cream for the day. If you don’t want to stop in experience this glorious frozen desert in person, a lot of grocery stores sell their products.
3. Babe Ice Cream
I went there once as a spontaneous adventure and I can say that I will definitely be returning there by the end of the summer. This place is a hidden gem on the north side. It's an off the map ice cream shop that is to die for (Hipsters welcome). The flavors they had reminded me a lot like your typical Baskin Robins and they also have so pretty cool looking cakes if you're into that. If you're all for animal rights or are lactose, they offer a variety of vegan options that are actually really good. So next time your friends try to make an excuse some lame health excuse on why they can't get ice-cream take them here because it's fun for everyone.
4. La Coppa Gelato
First off if you say you don't like gelato you're lying. If you ever find yourself at the heart of Bayshore looking for a sweet treat I wuld defiantly stop in here. This cute shop has some of the best gelato I have ever had. They offer a variety of different gelato sundaes to choose from. I ordered the banana split and they let me personally pick out which three flavors I wanted. No regrets when ordering these massive bowls so grab a friend and head down to Bayshore Mall to get some gelato today!gelato I have ever had. 5. Yo Factory
If you're looking for something a little more healthy Yo factory is the way to go. This is your typical make you own Yogurt Sundae but the fun atmosphere always brings you back for more. They have seasonal flavors along with their originals so you can have the best of both worlds when it comes to making the perfect Sundae. Plus they have acai bowls and you can make any one of their flavors into a frappe so there's no complaining here. They also have those little punch cards where if you buy a certain amount you get one free so why not keep coming back am I right?
The places listed above are just some of my favorite places I've visited in Milwaukee in the last three years but don’t think they are the only options. Milwaukee is full of so many ice cream places that are perfect for cooling off in the summer heat that it's hard to just choose one. These places are also located spastically through the city that you never know when you might come upon a random ice cream shop while exploring the city. So grab a friend, get out there and don't forget to come with open minds and an empty stomach!
