What works best for me!

I’ve always been one that loves to listen to other’s perspectives. It is refreshing to hear something different that you didn’t even think about before. Although some may consider it constructive criticism, I personally enjoy viewing it as a life hack, and who doesn’t want to discover different ways to better themselves? Here are five solid life hacks that I have discovered on my journey through life so far:

1. Aquaphor

Are your lips always chapped? There is a theory that some chapstick companies create their products with ingredients that actually dry out your lips. In fact, they use it as a marketing scheme to get you to buy more chapstick after you run out. Luckily, I found a natural and long-lasting product that actually works to make your lips silky smooth. Similar to Neosporin and Vaseline, Aquaphor is an unscented healing ointment for cuts or burns, dry skin, and more. This product works best for me and whenever I pull it out of my purse, all my friends want to use some because it’s that good.

2. Witch Hazel

I use it as a natural facial toner at the end of the day, and it is amazing to see all the dirt that comes off my face. I only use it at night because twice a day dries out my skin but do what works for you. It’s a great way to clean off all the oil and residue; however, this is not a makeup remover, and I would keep it away from your eyes. I’ve been using witch hazel for over a year now, and it has drastically cleared up my skin. This stuff must be a secret recipe made from a witch’s spell. But actually, it works like magic!

3. Conditioner

I know what you’re thinking: did she really just try telling me conditioner is a life hack? Yes, because I want to tell you how to use it as a pre-detangler in the shower. After you put it in your hair, leave it in for 3-5 minutes. While rinsing, you should rake through your hair in a downwards motion with your fingers or a comb. The conditioner is what makes your hair soft and easy to manage, so detangling it in the shower only makes it easier to brush when you get out. It’s simple, but extremely effective!

4. Coconut Oil

This substance has so many benefits other than smelling delicious, yet you can cook with it! I like to use it as a moisturizer, specifically in the fall and winter when the mosquitoes won’t be able to eat me alive. It’ll soak into your skin without looking greasy, and you won’t even need to use perfume or cologne. You can also put it in your hair as a mask for a few hours or overnight. Since it is an oil that can stain furniture, I would tie a plastic bag around your hair to keep it covered and less messy. Afterwards, shower and rinse your hair normally to discover your rejuvenated and shiny locks. I’ve found this method to help replenish my hair and scalp when it is damaged and dry.

5. Baby Oil

Similar to the last substance, this is a moisturizer to use year-round but specifically in the summer. Not only will it make your skin soft as a baby’s bottom, it will save yours from looking like a lobster! I wouldn’t recommend using this product in the sun because it will fry your skin; although, you can count on it to help a burn heal quickly. I find it better than aloe because it’s unscented and cheap!

My goal in writing this is to inspire individual’s to take better care of themselves, so they can live their best lives. Life is too short to avoid new ways to benefit health and wellness. I’m hoping that you’re reading this with means to help yourself and those around you. Therefore, these are the strategies that work best for me, and I hope they do the same for you.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
