5 Hard Truths of Owning a Rabbit
Do you ever wonder what it's like to own a pet rabbit? For years I had wanted a rabbit and finally when I was a sophomore in college I got one. It was one of the best decisions I ever made. Louie has become my best friend and he makes it exciting to come home. As soon as I walk into my room, he is right at the cage door trying to chew his way out trying to get my attention. He is the most precious animal ever! However, if you ask my family, they will say otherwise. So here are some reasons that I absolutely love my pet rabbit:
1. The “Personality” Factor
One perk of owning a rabbit is that everyone of them has their own unique personality. When I was in the process of buying my precious rabbit, I often found many owners telling me to be prepared for their personality. Man, was I not expecting the personality Louie came with. I often find him pouting next to me while doing homework if I do not pet him right away. He will literally turn his back to me and occasionally looking over his shoulder at me to see if I notice him pouting. Sounds like a child right??
2. The “Devil” Factor
Even though your rabbit may have a blooming personality, don’t believe for a second that it won’t be a little deviant. You will often find yourself saying “why?” repeatedly after it inevitably pees/poops when you play with it. There is a reason why my rabbit Louie’s nickname is Lucifer, and don’t even get me started on what he does to teddy bears...
3. The “Awe” Factor
Even though you may find your rabbit to be possessed by satan, it will still look adorable doing so. Everyday when I see him my heart still jumps as he jumps into my arms because he wants to be pet. Now, not very often does he want to be held and petted, so when he does this is beyond the cutest thing. So freaking adorable
4. The “Cuddle” Factor
Similar to lap dogs, rabbits will tend to want to be the center of attention and want physical interaction. This can be a problem if you are trying to finish your homework because your rabbit will undoubtedly realize the sudden lack of attention and sit on your homework. Picture provided as proof.
5. The “I’m Hungry” Factor
No matter how much food your rabbit has eaten, there’s always room for more. How else would you think rabbits get fat? This is why your grandma who is always trying to put more meat on your bones will probably love your rabbit. This adds to the “awe” factor since a rabbit chomping on some grub is one of the most adorable things on God’s green earth. Have you ever seen a rabbit eat an apple? When they lick their face after eating a nice and juicy apple, it melts my heart which is already melted from all of the other adorable things he does. Then, he will start cleaning his face with his little paws. Again melting my heart.
Louie has so many quirks but that's what makes him unique! I would not trade him for the world!
